Does anyone have an opinion on their GP rods good or bad?

I wish I could recall the model that I ordered, its a six weight that I like pretty well. If you are shopping budget then you can't hardly beat that closeout stuff. At the price its pretty fine.

I just received a 3/4 weight from them and a Bugati reel, it looks like to be put together very well. I have not had time to cast it yet. The reel seems to be very solid.

The prices look good, but wow do they make it back up in shipping. The shipping estimate for one rod or one reel priority mail (the cheapest option) was between 20 and 25 bucks.

Man that takes away from the savings with the shipping. I could really use a sweet deal on my first rod and reel combo. Money is tight and a 5/6 for $60 with line & backing was looking good.

Beery 980, not to threadjack any more than I normally do, but you might want to take a look at the Three Forks Combos at Cabelas. Ocassionally they'll put them on sale for right around 60 bucks. I've got one in a 3wt and one in an 8wt and have been very happy with them.

You know, Albright is not a huge company, and my recollection is that after e-mailing them about something, I got a note back the next day from the owner/president/honcho/chief dude.

I wouldn't be all that surprised to learn that someone who placed a call to them saying, "gee I'd like to buy a whole bunch of stuff from you but your shipping charges are just way out of whack" ended up with a discounted shipping rate.

Might not happen that way, but seems like it'd at least be worth a try.

Oh... and by the way I have one of their topwater rods (a 3-wt) that is not the most beautiful thing you've ever laid eyes on but it's a really nice-casting, noodly rod, perfect for a lazy afternoon of S L O W casting for bream and small bass.

I have the GP, it is pretty good. The one above that one I think called an A5 would be great though if you can afford it. If not the GP is fine enough for me for now.

Not real rave reviews for a rod they list at normally 200 retail per their add. I was considering two, a shorter 4-5 weight for creek fishing and an eight weight. I may still do it but I am going to look into shipping charges first. I will also take another look at the line kelkay mentioned for the 8 weight. I gotta make a suicide run to Lubbock tommorrow after work to buy my daughter a car to replace the one she drove with the geni light on so it likely will be next week. Appreciate all the responses.

I am gonna check BPS on Saturday in Grapevine to see if they have any in store specials. I hear they have some guys tying flies there during the day so I am going to go check them out for awhile.

I'm new to the forum and a die hard fly fisher. This thread caught my attention. I got on to Albright's website to see what they had going on. They'll make up some money on their shipping, but I noticed their warranty and that made me nervous. I've always purchased a fly rod know that I'll have it for a long time and one that could always become a backup rod in the future. Given enough time everything has a greater chance of breakage. An unconditional lifetime warranty (and the charge along with it) is a consideration I take. Being in Texas, it's tough to beat a TFO - $25 replacement. I've heard stories of Texans sending it in on Monday and back on Friday! That's my two cents.

Welcome to the forum, MeatwoFeet. With that kind of affinity for TFO, you should fit in here just fine. smile

That being said, I would like to have a heavier long rod, so I'll watch them and see if they do some sort of shipping deal in the future.

have anyone ever shipped a rod? To buy the tube and get it shipped is close to $20 so I do not think their shipping is high at all.
