I am thinking about getting a Ford Explorer 4x4, but I need to make sure it will be capable of towing our 22ft blue wave. Does anyone use a Ford Explorer to tow their boat or have any input about towing with one? The Explorer I am looking to get will have a V6. The boat is stored in Port A so I would only have to tow it to and from the various boat ramps around the area.

I don't know what a Blue Wave weighs, but I would be a little leery. I have an Explorer and if I had a boat that big, I wouldn't use it. Maybe with a V8, but not with the 6. Just my .02 though.

Put the plug in.

I pulled a Astro fish/ski behind a 4.0L on many occasions. Pulled it just fine with overdrive turned off. If your boat catches too much wind, you may have to slow it down some, but it'll pull 2000lbs no problem.

V8 would be better, just check on the axle ratio, the v6 3.55 has a 3500 lbs max while the 3.73 has a 5205.

Braking would be my only concern.

Pm Zeek the Greek. He pulls a 19' whaler that weights about the same w/ an Explorer, 4x4, V-8. As a matter of fact, I think
He's pulling it to Alaska this summer.

I pull a Kenner 19VX with a Explorer 4X4 V6. I know it's a bit smaller than your Blue Wave but it pulls just fine. I travel back and forth to Amistad at least 2 times a month.

At least my boat and truck are paid for, woo hoo!

Thanks for all the info. Looks like an Explorer will work for me.
