My Cousin and I are planning a trip to Amistad this coming weekend and could use all the help we can get! We have only fished Amistad two previous times, and were hopeing someone out there could give us a few pointers on where to go and what to use. Thanks for the help.

At least for me, this time of year is tough there. What I would try is deeper points and river channals. They might be staging deep for thier eventual spawn. But I think there is very little chance you'll see any fish in anything but deeper water.

Went down there 1/8/10 they can be caught with DD22's, slow presentation, 20' and deeper on points and step drop offs. We were in the Box Canyon area.

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know when to go fishing.

Did really well on this past saturday. Caught Bass up to 7 lbs but most were in the 2-5 range, probably caught 18 bass total. Drop Shotting the breaks with a Shadalicious 5.5 incher worked best for me..

Dang Clucky, wish you would have kept that little info quite about drop-shotting a swimbait, and I know I am not the only one down here who is thinking that. lol

Payne, if you have any other questions feel free to give me a call.

Respectfully,

ooooppps I apologize. I have fished Lake Amistad for about a total of 4 hours and I stumbled on to the secret? oh well you confirmed it and no one would have believed it until now, so we are both guilty as charged. the next day after I replied I remembered that I would be fishing against some of the guys that read this, this weekend.. sheer genius posting that in hind sighthammer think these guys will forget it by then?

Any chance we can get a cut of all the baits being sold because of this little faux pas, since everyone will be throwing it at Bass Champs this weekend? Oh well knowing the bait is only half the battle, you still have to know where to fish..

Make sure you check the weather before going there... That is another lake you don't want to be on if the wind comes up.... CR over the grass is always good there this time of the year... Lizzards and Brush Hogs work really well also........ Calif creek and back in San Padro...........
