I picked up a couple of 10' Wally Marshall rods at Bass Pro Friday night and had one of them brake after about 3 hrs fishing the next day. Hung a trotline or something , raised it up and snap, right above the joint. Surely this was a defect but was wondering if any one else was having this problem. As a side note I have sevaral other WM rods and havent had any problems. Just wondering if the quality might be starting to lag since the last time I bought one.

I've broke several of them, but just take it back to BPS and they will replace it with no problem. I have the same problem with the dock shooters, but it is still my favorite rod to use. I have a 9' jigging rod, love it too.

I just bought a 6'6", jointed W.Marshall and haven't fished with it yet. In the backyard I detect a "flat" feeling in the middle of the rod. I think the joint makes that part of the rod less flexible and wonder what is ahead when fishing. Will it dampen the feel of the rod?
Wadda uthink?

The only problem with taking it back is the 200 mile round trip. At that rate it could get expensive in a hurry at todays gas prices. But to look on the bright side it would give me an excuse to make the trip and I could always stock up on some more gear.

I have 8 WM rods.....4 dock shooters, a Pro series 7' , 8' and 9' and an all purpose 11'. None have broken while using them pretty dang hard. The 7' has been replaced, as rod box lids and graphite rods do not mix when slammed.

Yeap, what Jason said. I have 13 Wally Marshall rods, and most of them have been replaced at one time or another. But you show me a rod that won't break given the right circumstances, and I'll show you a rod that I can't afford .

I've never broke an ugly stick !!! I just don't think it is possible. At least not just normal fishing. And i've never broke my B & M 11' rod that is proabaly 17 or 18 years old. Man that thing has caught some good fish too ! And i have broke everyone of the wally rod i have at least once. Not that good a record in my book !!

Man, Wally is sure taking a beating on his fishing line and now his rods. I have multiple Wally rods and like others, I have broken them, but it is usually my abuse and not a flaw in the rod. Certainly can't step on them or drop a tackle box on them and then have them hold up forever. We sure are lucky we have choices of so many good rods. I have Wally rods, BnM and ProAngler rods, how great it is to have a choice????

If anyone is looking for a combo deal....They have a 10 bearing alum. reel with an IM8 6 foot rod at Bass Pro for $30. It is Bass Pro brand...the guy told me that they had a Christmas sale on them and didnt sell all of them. I would guess that combo is worth about 80 or 90. The rod and reel is definately a better quality than Wally becaiuse it is a sale, but the rods are too long for dock jigging...but still a deal. I bought 2 and stuck the reel on a shorter rod I had.

Well I dont mind saying I have 3 or 4 that have worked great and since I am trying to accumilate a good spider-rig /trolling setup I went ahead and picked-up a couple more 10'ers,but you know it was sure disappointing for 1 of them to not even last 3 hrs the next day. Sure the warranty on them is great and I really like those rods and they sure are purdy but the closest BP to me is 2 hours away. Im just hoping that perticular one was a one-in-a-million lemon. Just like to add that BP also carries BnM rods as well but I will still opt for the ol Wally rod. Was just wondering how yalls were holding up.

Uh, Ugly Sticks can and will break especially if your in Walmart trying to show your wife that they won't break by bending it almost in half. Just happen to know this for a fact.

I have 8 WM rods and Like Sharon the dock shooter(4 1/2 ft) is my favorite . I've broke a couple of dock shoters and 1 MightyLite. Some of the misfortune was my fault. One good thing BPS will gladly exchange or upgrade ... whatever you want. I guess it boils down to personal preference. I've quite a few sensitive and reponsive rods (Okuma, Cherrywood, Shimano, and some fly rods) but I still like the WM dock rod.
