I have never fished for big cats. Does anyone have any pointers for me on where to fish or atleast what depth to concentrate on? I am assuming cut shad is the best bait from everything I read.

Shad is best bait, and I'd drift in 30-35ft of water. Drifting between the Island and Tickey Creek is a good area to start.

Thanks BigBrad. Do I need to drift just off the bottom or are they suspended?

I get my bait at wrc. I would say if you have a net that will get deep before it closes then you shouldn't have a problem getting shad on the main lake in 20-25ft.

If you all had a choice between Lewisville and Lavon, which would you say is better for catching catfish?

Is the bait hard to find there? If you have some bait to start with, while drifting deep water, have your net ready to throw and watch the fish finder.

Went to lavon today and did ok. I thought the fish wouild be around the dam with the north wind for the last week but I could only get a small one. (2lbs) I went to the middle of the lake and ended with some nice ones and lost a real good one. I ended with I guess 10-15 fish. Biggest was 15lbs. All put back to grow bigger. Shad was the bait of choice. 40ft of water. I do have one questions to the experts how do you burp a catfish? I tried to put it over my shoulder and hit it on the back but that did not work. lol Hope the report helps. Sorry i have only started doing catfishing so I will help the best I can, with what I have to offer. Steve
The gene pool could use a little chlorine.

if over the shoulder dont work, of course always try that first to get good and slimy. carry a piece of 1/2 pvc pipe about 18 inches long with you. push the pipe in angling up thru the gullet. you will hear the air. rub its belly. after you cant hear any more air put it in the water. if it still wont right itself do it again. i am sure someone with more exp can give you more info. i just learned how myself a couple of weeks ago
