I don't know how much dental picks cost or where you can get them (I've asked my dentist's staff in hopes they would "volunteer" to give me some but they sterilize and reuse theirs). But several years ago I read an article that suggested using crochet hooks to untangle backlashes. You can buy them rather cheaply at Wal-Mart. I'm not sure what size I have, but just look until you find the ones with very small hooks. I've used them successfully numerous times. I hope I don't have to turn in my Man card for carrying crochet hooks in my tackle box.

i can get a backlash out without any problems. go to youtube and search the subject of removing backlashes and there is a video where a guy shows you how to do it easily. I tried it and it really works. I was amazed at how simple it is.

Look at a local hobby shop. Ask them for tools for working with clay. They usually have a very fine tipped "needle" with a curved point. It will work great!!

Go to the website above for the video on using your thumb while cranking on a backlash. It's magic. It really works and you can get a moderate backlash out in less than 2 minutes or less!

try one of those knitting needles. they carry them at walmart in the fabric section.

The small kniting needles work well for me and I worry less about 'nicking' my line with the sharp stainless dental picks!

You can use some of those small crochet needles. Walmart, Micheals, MJ Designs, fabric stores.
