What is the trick you guys and gals use on anchoring then drifting on top of these brush piles? I went out Friday but could not get a anchor to hold till it was in the pile itself and talk about fun getting it out man o man! Any help? Pictures of the style anchors ya'll are using??? Thanks Mine was a window weight with rebar welded to it at about a 65 degree angle but it would not hold onto the bottom till it hung up in the brush. Then spooked all the fish. Thanks in advance!!!

A chene anchor with about 6 feet of heavy chain and twice-thrice as much rope as bottom depth. [

If you have a trolling motor, don't anchor. Use your trolling motor to work the bp. If not, do what sasquatch says.

I'm with Clyde...just use the trolling motor. I don't even own an anchor. If you do want to anchor, then the suggestion above will work just fine.

I own a modifified v-hull (Pro-Crappie 175) which blows around in the wind like a dixie cup. I was on RR this weekend and ran into the same problem. Instead of hosing up the brushpile, I left the BP and came back when the wind died down a bit. I found the brushpile, went into the wind (and current) from the brushpile, anchored in the sand until the anchor caught, and adjusted the line until I was over the brushpile again. It worked but would have been better if I had a much heavier anchor.

Length of rope is key. Also, run the rope through the bow eye and then tie to a cleat. This improves the pull angle on the anchor and keeps the bow pointed into the wind better than tying to a cleat on the gunnel.

If your going to fish that way that is fine I personally do not do that, but catfishsalsa posted a good way to do it a couple of months ago.
posted 07-19-2006 01:26 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If fish are in the brush, I always anchor up if there is wind. Why sit there and fight it? I get to focus on my jig, give 100% attention to my fishing instead of consistantly trying to keep my self on the pile.
Get you a heavy, heavy spade anchor, take a look at the "line" of wind, mark your brush pile w/ an orange marker, go up-wind about 90 feet and drop your anchor. Back the boat to the orange marker, pickup the orange marker and fish. Boat will swing over the brush pile about 10ft either way and allow you to fish the entire brush pile. No anchor in the brush and you get to fish w/ no distractions.
I typically do this when I know there are fish in the brush. I would not do this to catch two or three fish.
If for some reason the anchor starts to slip (which it has never done for me) simply kick off the motor and re-do it. Don't ever let it slide back into the brush.
You guys ought to try it, you just might like it!
If there is minimal wind i'll just use my trolling motor.
