From looking at this page http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/findadest/parks/fairfield_lake/fee.phtml

It seems like all the camping areas are closed from Dec-Feb. I guess Ill have to call and see whats going on.

There are no redfish left in Fairfield. They all died a couple of years ago. No need for anyone to go there.

I don't have all the answers, but I'm a quick learner!

yep I agree. The bass, catfish, crappie, striper, also died.

By the way I found out one camp site area is open in the winter but the other two are closed.

I have found the reds in all parts of the lake this time of year..cold side and hot side...just fish in 8-20 ft of water...dont bother trying to mark fish either...just depth and temperature.

i agree with theRodFather, the reds in faifield move continously.

there are no under water structures that the reds seem to group around, rather they run the channels back and forth.

When 80% chance of rain, NEVER question the guy willing to pay for a hotel room versus staying in a tent!!!

I may be heading to Fairfield next week for a couple of days. I'm hoping the primitive tent sites will be available. In addition to going for reds, bass and big gills, I'll be going after tilapia with my cast net. Hoping to see some bald eagles.

I think the only campsites open are the ones that have power and water. But I don't know for sure. Still haven't called. Hopefully the weather holds up. Its supposed to stop raining Saturday night and we plan on going Saturday evening to camp.

I'm going to call 'em today and find out which campsites are open. The primitive sights look great. You have to hike back to 'em, I think it's 3 miles one way. They're on kind of a point near the end of the hot water discharge, part way up an arm of the lake. I'd like to park at the boat ramp, load my gear into my canoe and paddle to the site, trolling a lure behind me in case a red swam by.....

Thats exactly what I would like to do. Im thinking even if the primitive camp site are closed we can just paddle to a place and camp there. I think the park is only on a certain area on the lake. The res should just be public land and Im pretty sure you just camp anywhere you want on public land right?

Make sure you post what you hear from them.

Primitive sites not open. The only sites open are the Cooks Ferry section. $18 per nite plus the $4 entry fee. Kinda high to camp but I'm still going.
