if your gonna use a swim jig tho i reccomend black angels swimming jig. if you wanna keep it on top of the grass i reccomend using a lighter weight jig.

I personally am not a big fan of Kalins grubs for swim jigs. The tail is a smidge on the short side and it tends to wrap around your hook. I personally am a big fan of the Actions Plastics 5" Mag grub as this is still used by the pioneers that started the swim jig craze in the late 80's

Now that jig design has been covered, how about colors? I would think more whites and silvers to imitate shad, and more watermelon and green pumpkin to imitate bluegill, and not so much blacks and browns of normal jigs which imitate crawfish, right? Or what?

Here is a post I made earlier this year that addresses swim jig fishing in depth! Let me know if you need any additional information.

Loved the idea of a solid body swimbait on a swim jig.

I am going to Mexico and trying to come up with presentations that will work in the heavy brush you fish in Comedero.

Do you think this would work in the brush...fishing braid?

Whether you think you can or you can't, you are probably right.

I suppose a lizard would work but with a swim jig you're after realism and I'm not sure that would imitate effectively. A lot of people don't think a swim jig looks "real" and I believe that is a HUGE mistake!
As for fishing it in brush, I honestly think that it is one of the very best options available to you.

Try "YANKEMS FAT HEAD SWIM JIG". There 1/4 oz and have a tough sharp 6/0 gama hook. their hand made in AMERICA. they have a hand tied skirt, wich is must if u use swim jigs. I've yanked several 5 lb bass with them, and theirs guys in Florida who have caught 10 lb bass using "YANKEMS" with no problems. For trailers, you can use anything from 4 to 5" single tail and double tail grubs, rage craws, paca craws, swim baits, and etc. I've caught over 100 bass with the same swim jig. These jigs are tough and the best quality out their. Give them a try www.yankemjigs.com and remember "SPANKEM WITH YANKEM!" thumb

For your purpose it sounds like you need a 1/4 oz. swim jig with a pointed nose and a straight line tie. There are a number of good ones out there but I like the Brovarney swim jig. They have a good hook and a thinner skirt and weedguard which allows for a easier hookup. I use a single tail 5" grub as a trailer. Kalin makes a good one. When you get the lure right it will come over and through the grass as well as any lure out there. Just like a spinnerbait you need to base your colors according to the water color, type of day, and forage the bass are feeding on.

Black Angel Swimjigs. Those baits with the double diamond are awesome. Has really come thru in tourneys for me. And it only catches toads it seems like. Wont get a ton of bites but I promise they will be quality. I always have one tied on.
