E8C - You will not remove the water from the engine by running the motor without a water supply to it. The only thing you are doing is burning up your water pump imp.
Bass boat guys don't forget to open livewell valves so any water will drain out of the fill lines preventing valve or pump damage.

Inboard motors are water cooled. Need to drain the water/winterize or could crack your block or some thing like that. Do not have inboard motor but know that they need to be winterized to prevent costly repairs. Inboard engines you have to remove the drain plugs from the engine blocks and from the exhaust manifolds, and the risers. You have to remove the hose from the oil cooler too (it's for power steering)...Plus lower the stern drive (if you haven't already drained it at the end of the summer)... Some also spray fogging oil in the carbs before draining everything, and add some gas additives, but I just do the basic to my boats...It seems to work just fine...
