I'm with Ernest, you want to see a fat man fly? Just put a snake near my waders, and call the FAA cause there's gonna be a UFFM on the radar.

Actually, Guy and Ernest use the "Buddy System". When they arrive the edge of the bank, Guy always looks at Ernest and says, "After you".

The water snake that is very abundant here on CC is what I call the Diamond back water snake. They resemble a cotton mouth and when they are small less than 2ft long you cant hardly tell them apart. As they get bigger they develope a faint pattern on there back. These snakes are very aggressive at times. I have had them chase me on more than one accasion. I had one crawl in the boat with me. My wife even got bit by one about 2 years ago. She walking down by the water at our house and didnt see it until after it bit her on the calf. Amazingly she caught the snake and took it to the hospital with her alive in a small aquarium. My point is they are very aggressive and they make me nervous. I have fished beside them on many accasions but I have seen nests of them holding 12-15 snakes too. I wouldnt want to be the one that disturbed them.

I had an experience on Ray Hubbard once that still gives me the willy's.
The cat tails over in the little coves by the power plant. The wind blew us up into the back of it as my buddies T/M was running a little low on juice. I have never seen so many big ol snakes in my life.

Seems like I remember a big snake causing ole WCM to fill his waders up with water There was that hole that you stepped in on your retreat that didn't help I stuck my 2 piece rod out to give him a hand and that didn't work Some of the best Crappie fishing comes under a tree that just happens to be full of snakes

I was fishing off shore about 50 to 60 feet, A man was throwing a cast net around the shore. He ran a snake out, it headed straight for my boat. By the time he got to my boat he was too tired to go under or swim back to shore. That snake was determined to get on my boat and I was just as determined that he wasn't. I had an oar and me and that snake had a battle for about 3 minutes. I finally killed him. I was swinging hard and fast, that snake just wouldn't give up until I killed it.

I hear these stories and can't imagine what it would be like to live in fear while doing something you supposedly enjoy.
I have been around snakes all my life, I've dealt with hunderds of copperheads where I grew up in the woods down near the Lake Whitney dam. When in High School, I caught live rattle snakes to sell for $4 per pound. Water snakes, I've grabbed by the tail and pulled from my fish basket more than once.
You need to respect the ones that can hurt you but fear them, NO!
If a snake get agressive toward you, you have to deal with it. I'm bigger and smarter than it is so I win every time. Most of you do too.
When It's your time, it's your time and there ain't a thing you can do to prevent it. Don't worry about it.

i was fishing with a buddy of mine whan a big ol snake bit him right on the head of his pecker. well I sat him down and jumped in the truck and went to a hospital and asked them what to do. The doctor there said to cut the place where he was bit and suck out the venom. So I went back to my buddy and he said, Well what did the doctor say .I looked at him and said " Well, he said you're a dead sob"

Jerry, I remember that, We saw the snake sittin there and I stepped over a lof and my foot got stuck. When I turned around I couldn't see that big ol sucker and when I went to get out I was in a hole over my waders and the water was some kinda cold. I like the snakes I can see. The ones that dissapear when I'm not lookin make me a little wary. And that was one big ol snake.

Are you really so confused that you don't understand the difference between self destruction (drugs) and a God given time on this earth? I didn't say to recklessly play with poisonious snakes! I said to respect them because they can hurt you. The message I was trying to convey was Don't Worry! Don't live in FEAR!

Regular snakes dont bother me too much. But cottonmouths kind of get on my nerves. From past experiences im not sure they dont actually try to sneak up on you.

Can someone throw up a post of a picture of a water mocassin and a regular water snake so we can see the difference? I never know the difference, and when I was fishing a cove near the dam at Lavon last year during spring, me and my brother come up on an area that just down right felt snakey, so I told him to watch out and he, having been in the army, threw caution into the wind and kept on trucking through. I stopped to take a leak and about 10 seconds into it, felt something bump up against my leg, and low and behold, a huge snake, that slivered right between my legs and kept on going, and I'm not talking about what I was holding I think if someone had filmed me, I would have out dunked Michael Jordan that day. Didn't know I could jump that high
