Does not get any better than **NOW**. Water temp. was 69 degrees this morning. Size and limits without so many short fish have been the best of the year and they are slamming the minnows and sometimes jigs. Depth 8-11 feet, you have to look for them, but when you find the right brush there will be multiple fish up to 2 lbs. Minnows are doing better than jigs for me at the present. Caught several earlier in the week during the fog trolling minnows suspended above 30 feet depths (Jerry's teachings), but today they are in much shallower. Lakes I have been fishing - Stamford, Phantom, Hubbard Creek, McCarthey, and Coleman. **Note: New brush has been placed at Charlotte's Cove crappie house on Phantom and according to J&J bait, they are catching quite a few there. I do not know anything personally about it. Depths range from 8 feet to 22 feet. The Fall Bite is definetly on big time in West Texas.
Good Fishing, Mud-Dabber

My son and I fished Charlottes Cove last night from 8pm to midnight. The bite was very slow, but we did manage to catch a few, mostly those trashy white bass with a few crappie thrown in to keep things interesting. Most were caught on minnows, but we had a couple of fish on white and purple curly tail grubs. Will try to get back during the week to try again.

papermouth67 I don't know that it matters, but I have been doing better in the mornings from 8:30 a.m. to lunch or so out of a boat in the willows and flooded brush. I have been keying in on depths at 8-11 feet for the larger fish. At that dock, I know alot of fish are caught at times on Fle-fly jigs -1/16 in white/chartruce/white. Be sure to try outside right on the corners if you have not.

I talked to a man that had a nice mess of crappie and he said that they were biting real good in the mornings,6-8 am. Most fish caught last night were on the outside right corner,a guy fishing the oppisite corner was catching few too. Half a dozen people inside were not having much luck, did not see anyone catch a fish the whole time we were there. Work prevents me from fishing mornings, will have to wait till the weekend.

MUD-DABBER have you heard anything about Elm Creek(new winters lake)? I actually live in Tuscola, but have Abilene on my profile cause more people know where it is,less explaining for me. This a little closer to home. We did real good back in the late spring-early summer, never have fished it in fall and winter, but that is going to change this year.

papermouth67 I have caught some really quality crappie from the cove on the west end of the dam, but have only fished it in the spring. The lake suffered severly during the drought and is just now coming around. If you get a chance talk to the Water Superintendent there in Winters and he can help you with some info as he fishes that lake. Sometimes the crappie dock can be good on the sw corner on the smallest jigs you can find. Good color is chart/black/chart on that lake.
