Does any one have any detail on the boating accident yesterday afternoon (Saturday 1/2) on Whitney near the McCown ramp? It appeared that a striper boat hit a 16 foot aluminum boat. Don't know if anyone was hurt, but the aluminum boat appeared to have taken a pretty good lick.

Thanks.

No one was hurt. The older gent in the aluminum boat was taken to the hospital in Whitney to be checked out because he got wet and cold; he was released that evening.

I am happy to learn no one was hurt or injured though I would not have wanted to take a dip in the lake Saturday.. it was a bit chilly.... And, it looked like there was an excellent response from the Hill County law enforcement and emergency services at the ramp... lots of folks to help out...

I took a dip in 65deg water in Nov. and that's as bad as I ever want to experience. I couldn't imagine 45deg or lower. scared I'm so glad to hear he wasn't hurt. clap

I saw the striper boat... but it was non-descript, run of the mill striper boat... center console, white boat. 20 foot or better. Did not note the brand or any name on the boat. The owner looked to be filling out paperwork for law enforcement...

Stopped at the gate this afternoon and the gal there said she did not have direct information from law enforcement, but she "heard" that the striper boat ran over the smaller boat.. and that the old man in the smaller boat saw it coming and jumped out... he was put into some type of thermal suit by EMS and taken to the hospital due to having been in the water...hypotherma or whatever, but that is all hearsay and certainly 3 or fourth hand info...

We came up on the deal shortly after it happened and saw the striper boat pull the other boat to the ramp and saw all the law enforcement and EMS troops arrive.... I would guess it took them about 2 hours or more to clear the deal. We sat out in the channel and fished while it was being worked on... took quite a while. From my view point, I saw nothing but the two boats and the one pulling the other one in... I never saw the actual collision or anyone jump in the lake.... so, can't say what did or didn't happen... just that it took a long time to clear, that there were plenty of first responders there and I did clearly see the two boats involved.

The gate keeper also told me that Sunday or Monday night, that they had another incident as well and had lots of EMS and law enforcement out there... seems two guys went out and didn't come back.. they had a search for them... it was windy and the waves were high and these guys were in a small boat.... they found them out on the lake... their engine wouldn't start and they had no life jackets and were ticketed for no life jackets.... But no harm done... they were just adrift. All this according to the gate keeper... second or 3 hand info.... nothing that I know for sure.

Just have to be careful when its so cold... no margin for error.

loco Small boat, windy weather, cold water, no life jackets. Must be some real rocket scientists. They're lucky to be alive.
