Hello everyone...

Today I went to the fishing barge on Joe Pool at Lynn Creek Marina and the fishing was not happening. After a hour and a half of nothing a man came in and told us he sunk 10 Christmas Trees in the two tanks in the barge the day before. (4 trees in one and 6 in the other.)

My question is.. Could this be the reason nothing and I mean nothing was biting. If the current habitat was disturbed placing new brush would that drive the fish off temporaraly?

I know this is a good thing and come feb or march I will probably be praising the man while crappie fishing but today was dead.

I've seen crappie come to brush within minutes of it being put down. Also seen them avoid the area for weeks. One possibility might be that the trees he sank were from a commercial lot. Most volume growers spray their trees with a chemical to make them stay fresh looking longer. When the affected trees are put into the water they bleed off a "toxic" substance therefore running off the fish.

Just my $.o2 worth!

Thanks for the follow up. I was wondering about the chemicals myself but I do not know if the trees had been treated with anything. I am also wondering about the sap in the tree and if it might be toxic to the fish or not. Any way I know that come feb or march the fish will be back but was just thinking about how long I should give it before I try fishing there again.

There was a man there brim/perch fishing and three guys carp fishing and no one was getting any bites. It could have just been too cold and not the new trees but it did make me think.

Was he in a white and red boat (Skeeter maybe?) I wasn't to far from him when he was dumping them. Looked like they wouldn't sink, or it was just shallow.
