Went out to check my t motor after my repairs the other day. Its a foot controlled 24 volt motorguide. well the wheel that you turn on the pedal to make the speed go up and down well not sure what speed its stuck on but turning the knob makes no difference. Does anyone know where i can get another speed control knob for it and possibly the price on one. Its a motorguide 24 volt 50lb thrust t motor. Sure it cant be much just like a resistor that makes the current start low and go up. mark

Do you have a switch on the side marked something like bypass and variable? Mine is on the port side.

Test the speed control switch. It is not likly that it is out. This trolling motor uses a speed sensor in the motor that are bad about going out. Pull the top cover and check the blue wire`s connection. Have seen it disturbed when working on or replacing the foot control cable.

Ill try that. It didnt work at all before but whoever hooked it up had the two main wires from the batteries backwards. I was going to try and test the controller first since their should be a voltage drop when turning the knob but was very cold yesterday lol. Never thought about inside of cover. My switch on the left side works properly as in constant speed etc... Ill see if i cant get under that cover today and check that wire out. Thanks Gary mark

Well pulled the cover but there isnt a blue wire under it. Checked all connections anyway and all seem to be alright. Checked the speed control switch and(using a 12/24v test light that checks power and ground) the control switch has three wires on it. Without doing anything all three have a little power to them. Dont know how much since using a test light, but when i hit the switch to make the prop spin then all three go out. Seems to me its bleeding to othe other terminals when not in use. But no ground at any of the three terminals. Just me thinking but doesnt the ground control that switch as in making the prop spin faster or slower? Its a spinning switch not the type that clicks 1-5 like i had on my nitro for speed for different speeds. Its a MG brute if that makes a difference? Any ideas? Im thinking the switch unless someone else has another idea on what to check

Look for a small wire coming out of the shaft that connects to a board. I have one these older trolling motors at my shop and will look to be shure. Just know that when an older model MG trolling motor only works on high, it is normally the speed sensor in the motor or the wire from the speed sensor has a bad connection.

There are 3 wires coming from the roller knob on the foot control. All 3 have a small amount of power to them till i press the foot button to activate the motor, then no more power but no ground either on the three. They do go up to a circuit board and looked at the connections there and all seem fine there. But im not sure on the board what gets powr and what is supposed to be ground. There is also a 24 volt relay on the board as well, i tried to remove it to check the connections for damage or being burnt but it wouldnt budge so left it alone since i didnt want to break the circuit board. I know on older diesel trucks i have seen these relays burnt underneath and actually melted before. I may have to get some kind of schematics on this if i can find one and go from there. Im not the best on electrical but i can follow a schematic to see what is supposed to be powered and grounded, since even thou im checking with a test light im still not sure what is supposeed to have power and ground but the main wires from the batteries. mark

So the speed sensor your talking about is actually in the casing of the lower motor? where the prop is? And the lower housing just screw off? ive heard they have to be sealed back up when putting them back on?

Actually im not sure the year model since i just bought the boat. It has the blue colored writing on it which my 96 nitro had white lettering on it but again im not sure. The wires the guy had hooked up backwards then found out what was going on and redid the wiring to correct his mistake. Guessing he just threw the t motor on it without checking it since it wouldnt work the way he had it on it. But when i bought the boat there was only a cranking battery so i couldnt check the t motor, but with what i paid for the boat the outboard is worth what i paid for it mark

If it a brute 55 then the control board is no longer available. There is a switch on the side if it will only run in one position the moss fet is out take it to a shop there is one that advertises on here they can check it out for you

Its a 50lb thrust. 24volt only. The switch for constant and the other two settings work fine, its just the t motor has only one speed it doesnt change when i turn the knob on the foot control to make it slower or faster, there is no difference in speed.

Ok its a brute competition model 765 says made by zebco 1991. The wires going thru the shaft all come from the circuit board. It has a red, black, blue, and green wire that goes thru the shaft. The wires coming up from the foot control all go into a plug the plugs into the circuit board mark
