When I fish for striper or sandbass I try to throw stuff with a single hook to make fish removal easier for me and easier on the fish.
However, I recently found some striper shallow on Texoma and they did not want flukes, coho's, wildeyes or sassy shads. They did want rattletraps though. I always cut off one hook on each treble and this day was the same but I was having more trouble than usual removing fish.
I have never cut off two hooks per treble, but was thinking about it. Anyone try this or simply remove the trebles and rig with single hooks?
What was that?

Never tried it with a trap, but I always remove the treble hooks from my spoons and replace with a single hook. Works good.

Yes I have.
I used to do that fishing canals in Louisiana in a area call Lacassine Reserve. The trebles would get hung in the grass and liily pads a lot so I tried the single hook. The bass would pound that RattleTrap. I tried many hooks but found the type you put on Spinnerbaits as a trailer hook work great. Turn the hook on the back upward and the one on the bottom make sure the point of the hook is face down. I even tried it with out the bottom hook and its gave the bait a funny wobble and the bass tore it up!! They flutter down crazy without the bottom hook.
I don't where you fish but give it a try and who knows it might work on your lake.
I used the red tiger, all white, and blue chrome colors. Red was the best color choice for that system I fished. I think it looked like a crawfish and they like the action??
Land was created to provide a place for boats to visit!! It is when pirates count their booty that they become mere thieves. ARRRRRR....

wonder if a weedless hook would work, one in front, one in back,..a weedless rattle-trap,...throw it right in the junk.

I rigged a frenzy last year with singles and when I got into the whites I switched to it and caught them as good as with trebles. It works, just hard to find the right hooks with a big enough eye in them so they swing freely.

i might try rigging a weedless treble hook myself, because i cant fish regular rattle traps in the ponds near my house without having to remove pond scum from it after every cast. Worth a try!

On Treble hooks,Pushing in the barbs or filling off the barbs work great for me. Just keep tension on the line. Saves the trouble of replacing the hooks. Have not noticed a difference in missed fish. Saves on bandades and trips to the doc.
