The family and I returned home last night and Blake was pumped to catch some crappie after getting a few near grandmother's house. We hit the lake this morning with our neighbor who was watching for our return last night.

"I am ready to go fishing Pope," he explained as I unloaded the car. "You want to go in the morning?" Blake chimed in immediately, "Yes!"

We took off this morning. It was a grind and finally after 4 stops we had plenty. We threw back all fish under 11" and nailed a few cats for the freezer on the way back to the ramp.

You're right Guy. Since I taught Blake to use jigs last year I have been able to turn him loose and watch rather than instruct. I stood, watched and smiled all day. If it weren't so cold, tears would have streamed down my face. Instead, they froze to my cheeks. The water temp was 37!

Thanks again everyone. It was a blast!

Regarding photo #3, Blake was explaining how the fish hit his SlabmeSilly jig when I took the photo. "You have to come up Papa," he expounded.

Wow! Lucky kid, lucky Dad....Unlucky fish! Nice job!

Where does one go to catch at least 1/5 of that? I haven't had any luck fishing in the cold so far looking for some good places to fish out of.

Yes, it was also nice to fish with my old friend, "Uncle Don," as Blake knows him. He was one of the first people I met when I moved here 13 years ago. I lived in Denton as a student at UNT and we met through fishing. I moved to Arlington to buy a home and he ended up living on the next street. It is a small world. He is gaining in years and it was nice to see him catching fish.

"I measured you when you were born," he told his "nephew" as Blake measured his fish. "You ended up a keeper."
