you will only find few here and there now, the best time to catch some nonstop action bull is oct-mid nov. they will hit anything from live mullet, fresh cut bait (mullet, piggy, croacker, shad etc), blue crab, and shrimp.

I have never run across Jacks in Trinity and hope I never do. They can ruin your trout rig very quickly. Jacks are more common at the jetties or surf, but are not uncommon in the bays.
The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president.

For bull reds or just consistent redfish try the Boat Cut at the North Jetty on the channel side.
It's a pretty consistent spot for bull reds among many other species including small sharks and other fish. You can fish it by boat or walk all the way out there.

And yes there are Jackfish in Trinity bay. I have caught Jack Crevalle in Trinity Bay, East Bay, Lower & Upper Galvestoin Bay and West Bay.
Jackfish feed alongside speckled trout too. When you get into a school of trout it's common for the jackfish to be with them too since jackfish are just as much an opportunist an aggressive predator fish as speckled trout. Not to mention jackfish love live shrimp just like trout do. A common way to fish for speckled trout is the classic live shrimp under a popping cork and that same method catches jackfish too.
I like catching jackfish. Yeah they fight hard and take a lot of time to land but they are fun. Especially catching them on an 8 or 9 weight flyrod. Talk about fun !! I'll take a jackfish on the end of my line than a redfish or speckled trout any day !!
Here in Texas I guess a lot of people consider jackfish a pain or not a very sought after fish. But in places like Florida they love catching jackfish for sport especially on the fly.

Yeah, just be careful on Trinity Bay. On a strong wind it can get really choppy and rough out there with so much open water.
Yes, Jacks are fun to catch. A good 20-25 pounder or bigger will put up a real good fight. First time you hook one will really surprise you how much power they have and how fast they can make a run. They can easily take 50-100 yards of your line in a matter of seconds. Once you hook one, hold on !! Basically just let them run and don't try to stop them too soon or else you can risk line or even rod breakage. They are rod breakers that's for sure if you are not careful and make sure your reel has a good drag system. Nothing that an Abu Revo Inshore can't handle.
I have never targeted Jacks though. Just catch them by accident like most people do. But they are fun when you hook into one. Best fighting fish in the bays pound for pound. Especially fun when you catch them on light tackle used for trout and reds.

Hah hah, I knew a guy like that once. My best friend in college who had never held a rod in his life. I taught him everything I know. And now he outfishes me and everybody I know.
