How do you guys fish for crappie when they are suspending? For example, if you are fishing structure in 25 feet of water and the fish are suspending between 10 to 12 feet, what would you do? Slip bobber with a jig, or straight-line vertical jig and count down to 10 feet? My most productive spots haven't been working lately even though I am marking fish above them. I have tried to vertical jig further up in the water column, but no luck. Any suggestions?

There's a good possibility that Ernest is correct. I located a spot on lewisville lake about 5-7 yrs ago that had tons of fish. I tried that spot every time I was on the lake. I decided I wasn't fishing when they were feeding so I fished every hour of the day, with minnows, jigs, and even night crawlers. The only thing I caught was some cat fish around 2am. It wasn't worth the extra time in the dog house for fishing too much.

If you are showing fish at about 10-12 ft it very well could be crappie. And if it is while it is cold they are probably lethargic and not feeding. All of my crappie the past few weeks have been caught in 20-25ft of water on the bottom. I did manage to catch some suspended in 13-17ft of water but it was also 70 that day. All you can do is try what you are doing. If you dont get a bite move to another hole they might be feeding there. One thing I have learned in catfishing and fishing the coast if you dont get a bite in 15min then its time to go find another spot and another spot till you do find the ones biting. For this very reason is why I have 12 condos on Lewisville at different depths to find the ones biting.
