Hi, I was skunked today. I was fishing a TDPW newly stocked trout pond (Ablon in DFW) and I could see the trout in the water, there were so many. However, there were a dozen guys and NOBODY caught anything! I was using a rooster tail; yellow and white. 1/8 oz. What am I doing wrong? Please advise. Thanks,

All I've had any luck on are the Super Dupers. They haven't bit Rooster Tails or corn either one this year.
Men are like fish...If we'd learn to keep our mouth shut, we'd stay out of trouble.

I think you are fishing with too big of a bait. Try 1/24th on the spinners. The super dupers work good too.
The best bait for me with these stocked trout has always been power bait on a small trout hook with a couple of bite weights up about 18" up the line from it.
Make sure you use light line too. No more than 6lb test.

Trout have excellent vision and can be very very finicky. If you can see them, they can see you. If they ain't biting, they ain't biting.

Try the right half of the pond.. as you're looking at it from the parking lot. Small white, silver and gold spinners work good usually in this pond for the stockers. Also they only put 1000 in this time. The other 1000 get stocked next month.

He is right about the 1,000 benchmark JR
When trout know they number up at around 2,000 - they go totally Hari Kari, then a fellow can catch em on Playdoh and 80 lb braid.
But when the numbers drop towards 1,000, well, trout ain't stupid.
Unless you are wearing a grass skirt and sleeping in a ditch and eating only road kill, you too are part of 'the problem'.

+1 on using SMALL spinners or super dupers and ultralight gear. Also, powerbait, salmon eggs, corn, or bread can work. OR, fly gear is good too with size 16 - 12 nymphs, small streamers, are wet flys.

That was me with the fly rod caught around 45 today. I had fun but it seems the fish hatcheries around here have alot to learn about stocking fish. It would take about a dozen of these things to make a meal. I gave a few away to some kids that were getting skunked. They got a kick out of it so I can see the benefit of stocking these with undersized trout but it would be alot better if they had decent size to them. As for tips on catching them use the smallest stuff you can find. I had luck on a modified olive green wooly bugger. I use small floats to get more distance and to use as strike indicators.

Those kids were funny, yea all on a little olive green fly its not really a wooly bugger its a family secret my dad makes em but its no secret that wooly buggers work very well on trout.
