Looking to grab a spinning setup for lightweight, shakeyhead purposes... any suggestions on proven combos? Thanks!

If you don't want to go broke I'd look at Falcon Original Spinning Rod 6'6" medium action and any 2500 size Shimano spinning reel that fits your price range. Spool 8 or 10 lb fluorocarbon. This rig works well for me and didn't cost a ton.

10# BRAID!!!!!with a light flouro leader.at least doubles your casting distance.and gets more solid hooksets with lighter action rod.Hope this helps.

make sure the reel is a high speed retrieve, i prefer the shimano stradic 1000 for 8 pound test.

zoom finesse or trick worm

picasso or spot remover jig head.

10 - 12# flouro, or light braid/flouro leader, 6'6" or 7' medium with fast tip.

smooth spinning reel

if you think your fishing too slow... slow down!

For about $110-$120 total: BPS medium Tourney Special 6'6" rod and Shimano Sahara or Sedona reel. Nice combos - I have one of each. Handles up to 12# mono/copolymer.

In memory of my childhood friend Dan Sterling, who taught me at an early age how to catch bream with a hand-line, and who unknowingly hooked me on fishing for life.

Skeet Reese Shakey Head Rod $89.99 and I suggest a 3000 or 4000 Series spinning reel. The bigger spool helps prevent line twist, has a smoother drag and they propel the line off the spool better, so they will cast further.

I like to use 20lb Power Pro or 10lb Fireline with a 8-12 lb (8-9 foot long)Fluoro Leader.

3000+ size reels are too heavy for me and distance isnt an issue vs a 1000 but thats just me. i like the combo to lay weightless in my hand so i can just feel the weight vs lifting it. just my 2 cents.
