Guys I am sorry but I am on the last 2 weeks of a 8 week job that is east of 635 off of 30 and there is not enough money to get me to live in the DFW area permanently. Look west of Ft. Worth, Weatherford, Mineral Wells, Breckenridge, Eastland, Cisco or Graham. Good schools, good towns, smaller than 25,000 and most smaller than 10,000 people. Things are a lot cheaper and quiter.

Angleton Tx, is where I call home and I love it here, I can be to Houston in 40 mins and have my boat in the bay in 30 mins. Seems like everything you need is within an hours drive. But if I had to move from here I would go to the Rockport area, near Corpus, the coast is just beautiful down there. and if not there the Hill Country is also on the top of the list but it's getting more and more crowded. Only bad thing about the coast is the occasional hurricane. BTW my wife is a teach in the Houston area and she really likes the schools, hates the drive but Houston pays alot more than your small towns. The main thing is just get to TEXAS!

Move near your family. As Victor Newman says..."Family should come first." I heard Wifey say that...the thing about Victor Newman I mean.....I don't know NOTHING about it on a personal basis, just what Wifey tells me from watching some......daytime soap or something. But I didn't watch it.....I mean I DON'T watch it. I would watch GUNSMOKE but I would not watch Young and.....I mean, whatever it was that WIFEY was watching. Anyway, hope you move near family!!
****Sun sinking low....lines baited.....gentle south breeze blowing...you realize.........I AM! .

If your looking for a small town in central Texas take a look at Goldthwaite population 1802. 100 miles north of Austin, 80 miles west of Waco, 125 miles east of San Angelo, 130 miles southwest of Fort Worth. 35 miles to the nearest Walmart. Weekly paper comes out on Thursday's. Middle school classes run from 52 students 7th grade our largest to around 40 in 6th and 8th grades. Our pay scale is lower than far west Texas and the metro area's but cost of living is much lower as well. Every kid knows everyone else and every teacher knows every student by first and last name. Rolling hill country well known state wide for it's deer and turkey hunting. We are playing this Saturday afternoon in the Texas High School Football Class A division 1 state semifinals. Good luck Eagles.

TB, I agree you live in an excellent area, with outstanding schools. But how many teachers can afford to live there? Park Cities has the highest income per capita in Dallas, and most of Texas. I was born in Dallas, raised in Dallas, and will be the first to tell you that Dallas is last place he should consider. Park Cities is in the middle of Dallas. Where are the several other excellent districts in the area? Maybe Coppell? Where else?
You'd be surprised... There are actually a lot of "exemplary" schools in DFW. Most are in the more affluent neighborhoods, but they are around. I went to SMU, so I know University Park and Dallas fairly well. I think University Park is nice, but I have a problem with being only a stone's throw away from the Love field area of Dallas. I know the Park cities seem to be shielded from most all of the crime there, but it is just too close for me. I always thought that was weird how you go a block or two and everything changes.

I live on the edge of E. Texas and work in DFW. My advice to you is "Go west young man."

Possumilk, Give this a try < http://www.kerrvilletexascvb.com/ > Kerrville is truly a Hill Country paradise. The accommodations are first-rate, the scenery is majestic and the people are friendly. We are located in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, where sparkling spring fed creeks meander through the rugged terrain and rolling hills of the Guadalupe River Valley. The Guadalupe River along with our mild climate provides the opportunity to enjoy many outdoor pursuits. Every season in Kerrville offers an array of activities. With an event-filled calendar and our relaxing Hill Country setting, you'll see how easy it is to... Lose your heart to the hills. Todd Bock Mayor of Kerrville From Basschasser

I can't believe no one has asked you this yet, but what is your teaching field. If it is science, math, or special ed. you can pretty much write your ticket as to not only what district, but the individual schools. I have taught here for 16 years and have a pretty good idea of what is what around the Houston area. If you are looking in this area let me know. Especially the NW side of town.

I looked into teaching as a third career a couple of years ago in the panhandle, there seemed to be lots of jobs at smaller schools especially in science or math or special ed. Fishing would not be a strong selling point for this area though there are opportunities. I currently work in the Bryan/College station area and I think anywhere on either side of the corridor from Waco south would be good. You can google AskTed and find a lot of information on each school district, jobs etc. Good luck!
