Folks,

I need a recommendation for a quality spincast reel. I can't get my Dad used to the reels that I keep in the boat.

We mainly fish for whites and crappie. Any suggestion on a quality spincast?

Thanks,
Stephen

Daiwa GC 120.

About as good as you can with spincast.

My Mom, who passed away a year ago at 89, used a Daiwa GC 100 the last 5 years and did well. She was a great white bass fisherman. My 14 yr old grandson has been doing really well with a Johnson Maxxum. Dennis

Gotta go with the old reliable Zebco 33. One thing you might want to do before fishing with it...take all the old line off of it EXCEPT for the last two feet on the reel. Tie you some NEW line in the place of the old line...you never know how long the line has been on a new reel. Almost guarantee the original line has a pigtail memory in it that's both hard to cast and dang near impossible to feel a lite bite with.
Hope it helps.

Zebco Omega for a really good reel, and the 33 for a sometimes fisherman. Fly is correct, dump the factory line and put a good low memory 10 lb line on it as quickly as possible.

I like the zebco 33 that are us made.

The Abu-matic are a better made reel they have a bigger drad on the high end moderls! Abumatic- 170

One you build and fish with your own hand built custom rod you will fish with nothing else!

This looks really cool! More of a low profile reel. It says kids but its looks like it could fit anyones needs.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I'll be picking up something tomorrow after work, leaning towards the Diawa GC.

Looking at the Diawa GC online, it seems extremely close to a Silstar labeled spincast reel I was given about 20yrs ago. Anyone know the history of the Diawa GC and if it was sold under different makers at some point?

I casted a few times with my cousins son's Zebco Omega last weekend. I have never seen a spincast even close to that smooth!

I bought a Zebco 33 when I was a kid (over 20 years ago) and the kids still use it out at the lake. If you keep them somewhat clean they will last!

I would recommend one of these 2. I asked my cousin and he said the Omega combo was about $50 but you can usually get a 33 combo for about $20-25. I agree with changing the factory line asap.

Thanks again for the suggestions. I went to Cabellas and compared the Diawa GC and Zebco Omega, and ended up getting the Omega for my dad.

The Omega was very smooth to operate. The drag adjustment wheel seemed a little cheap, but overall the quality seemed better than the GC.

The GC's didn't have the smooth operation that the Omega had, and GC's push button was seemed poorly designed. Also, something was wrong with the alignment of the spool on the GCs, but perhaps this was only an issue with the floor model.

Also, as stated by a few above...the factory line is worthless.

Sorry, I have nothing good to say about your choice of reel. My experience has been I bought a Zebco Delta which is just like the Omega except no spare spool. Heavy, unbalanced, horrible line twist (even with good low memory line), whimpy drag that got in the way when you palmed the reel. Obviously, it went back to BPS real fast. Zebco isn't what it used to be. I highly suggest either a Daiwa or Abu spincaster over the Omega, Delta, or 33s.

Just dont buy a zebco omega. The spool will not come off to interchange with the spare.Unless they have improved them that is.Overall reel is smooth and had no problems just dont ever try to use the spare spool and you wont have any issues.
