FYI... don't rile up Skippie... I found this site searching for Fuji guides and made a very modest order. My printed checkout price was quite different from what I was eventually charged... http://www.shofftackle.com/fuji-sic-boat.html Below is what transpired at the 'Checkout Stand...', and the response I got from Skip the fine and up-standing Customer Service??? rep. While I may be considered many things; computer illiterate isn't one of them since I have a BS in Computer Information Systems and work as a 2nd Level Tech Support Engineer at a telecom company... Anyway be careful dealing with these Yankee iceholes... seems they don't think too much of we'uns, bad water or something: ++++++++++++++++++++++++ Hi Paul: I find it absolutely amazing that you went through the whole ordering process and did not see the Shipping Charges link on the top of every product item page. Not only didn't see that you didn't see on the Check Basket page HIGHLIGHTED Shipping & Handling Charges added at invoicing. And then, you didn't see on the Buy page HIGHLIGHTED in Yellow in not one, but two places Shipping & Handling Charges Added At Invoicing. And then you expect to buy $9.70 and have someone ship to you for nothing. AMAZING................ ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. You were not led to believe anything. Nothing. You just don't know how to read. How in the hell can a person buy something for $9.70, and expect someone to pick the order, invoice it out, box it up, take to the post office pay the postage for just the price of the goods at $9.70. Paul, I would find it dam hard pressed to deal with you again. Matter of fact it isn't happening. God, it must be the water down there. Paul, Have A Good Day Best Regards Skip ----- Original Message ----- From: Paul D Holbrook To: shofftac949@comcast.net Sent: Saturday, March 18, 2006 12:45 AM Subject: Reference> 100676493 Dear Sirs / Madame, I made a purchase from your website, 17Mar'06, and while I was impressed with the selection available; I was not particularly pleased with what I 'thought' was my total purchase price. When I believed I had been through the Check-out and was reminded to 'Print this page...' the total indicated was $9.70. I checked my bank today, 18Mar'06, and found your company had billed my account $16.70. I have a difficult time believing that I was not shown the additional $8.00 for I assume 'Shipping and Handling Charges' which virtually doubled the price I was led to believe was my 'Checkout Total.' I have not canceled the charges as I need the pieces that I purchased, but I will be hard pressed to deal with your company again if you are not going to show a true total to a customer at the conclusion of the check-out process. I snooped around the site you provided and found shipping charges listed all over the place in mostly large letters. While I do not know very much about computer literacy I am able to read an order blank and since anyone with a modicum of sense[other than computer literates] would expect shipping charges and look for how much they are.

While the guy wa a 1st class a-hole, I went to the site and chose an order of $9.15 and I saw this on the basket page.
Shipping & Handling Charges Added At Invoicing. Sales Tax If Applicable Added At Invoicing.
THERE IS A $5.00 ADDITIONAL SERVICE CHARGE FOR ORDERS UNDER $20.00
Now I did not actually order and print an invoice so I am not sure what that would look like.

Paul Your experience seems unfortunate. A misunderstanding on your part and irritable independant businessman customer service on the shop owners part. Chock this one up to experience and move on. If you are a rodbuilder I would like to meet you some time and watch you build. I recently bought 2 Allstar 907 blanks from Andy Dear at Lamar Fishing - http://www.lamarfishing.com/. I am getting into the art of Rodbuilding and would love to see someone work. Here is a rodbuilding site that has a lot of dealer links that might help you in the future. I think Paul is referencing the response he got from the customer service rep. Even though Paul made a mistake it was an honest one and his quiery was straight forward and not abusive. The response from Skip at shofftackle however was anything but professional. Caps on the internet is a way of shouting I believe. To talk about the water was completely unneeded and showed the customer service reps attempt at embarrassing the customer. Cussing as well at making the customer feel inadequate is the issue, not whether the shipping and handling charges were apparent or not.
I shop the internet but I don't need to look at that site to determine that they won't be getting my attention. You won't find that kind of thing from a professionally run business. They seem not understand keeping customers happy.

Allison1 hit the nail on the head. Good customer service does not seem to be in their business plan.
One reason Skip was so unprofessional is that he was mouthing off "long distance." Bet money he would not do it face to face!
But thanks for the heads-up. I sure will not be ordering anything from them. Too many decent folks out there that appreciate customers.

I also went to the site and found the shipping info listed under the check out box. However, I agree with Paul on this one. Even though its states shipping added to invoice the "total" amount should also include shipping so there are no surprises. This is just a simply mistake with an inexperienced e-business. That being said I think the response Paul got was incredible. I would never think of buying anything from this site. Generally speaking you would think "Skippie" would prefer to keep customers rather then lose them.

I believe Paul is used to all other sites showing him the S/H charges straight up. This web site is not very user friendly and now we know that neither is Skippie. Must be that time of the month for Skippie

I wouldn't buy without knowing total, with S&H charges.... Wait. I did just buy from T&H Marine without knowing the total freight, she added it to my card..dang I guess you just have to know who your dealing with. .and I know I won't be buying from skippie..

What will make me NOT ORDER from them is the sheer rudeness of the response (if real) of their rep. Yikes!!

Shofftakle is commiting a fatal e-commerce mistake. We regularly set up commerce sites, and what skippie's doing is driving away a large percent of his potential customers by not showing all shipping and handling costs at check-out. No one should EVER purchase from a site that won't show you the COMPLETE invoice cost. Period.
His remarks were uncalled for. Because of the way the check-out is set up, he probably gets LOTS of calls and emails about his policy.
