I had someone give me some ground venison today. I've never cooked venison at all so I need some suggestions. I was thinking of making venison burgers, but I'm open to other stuff.

I cook it in a pan with olive oil in it. Your patty may fall apart if you cook it on the grill. It depends if fat was ground in with the venison. Cook it rare.

Burgers, Chili, Casseroles, I use it just like ground beef with any recipe.

Chili, Tacos, Burritos, Meatballs, Meatloaf, Hobo Patties (foil packet), burgers, cheese dips, and I'm sure I'm missing something else.
I haven't bought beef in years! Talk about saving money!

If it isn't mixed with beef fat it will be extremely lean.

If it isn't mixed with beef fat it will be extremely lean. My wife really likes lean meat. I never have added trimmings and mine turns out great. Although if I'm making burgers it will need some fat. Try Jimmy Deans!

I make all the above with it. In burgers or mealoaf I will cut it with ground round and an egg to help hold it together.

Any recipe that calls for ground beef is made with ground venison in my house. Casseroles, chili, enchiladas, tacos, lasagna, spaghetti, salsbury (sp) steak w/gravy, you name it. When I have my deer processed (or do it myself), I add 10% beef fat to it. It also makes good grilled hamburgers and you can always add additional ground beef if you want or need more fat content. Enjoy!
