Last week I started up the boat for a bit on the muffs, and then sprayed the cylinders with Sta-Bil. Today I come out to check the boat for a trip, and I find this leak.

Any idea on what it may be? Purely based on the color, it does not seem like it would be lower unit oil...but then again, I am no expert on boat mechanics...

Any thoughts on what it might be?

Thanks much,

W

How thick it it and what does it smell like? If you went heavy on the seafoam it could be the saefaom+carbon that the seafoam brokedown running out.

Well, it was pretty thick, but I really am not too sure on the smell. Not sure if it makes a difference but it was actually Sta-Bil that I sprayed in there as opposed to SeaFoam. I followed the directions which said about 3 seconds in each of the cylinders...

It was my first time spraying in the Sta-Bil, so since this leak occured afterwards, I tend to agree that I must have used too much or something like that. I put a drop cloth under there today to see if I get any additional leakage.

Thanks,

W

Stabil needs to be in the fuel system to do any good. I do`nt see where spraying Stabil in the cylinders will help anything.

What you have done is semi-flood the cylinder and the excess is washing carbon out of the exhaust system. There is nothing to worry about and actually happens a lot when a guy leaves the fuel line attached to the motor and then tilts it for highway transport. Same thing happens like what you have, Too much fuel washing carbon in the exhaust showing up what looks like lower unit oil running down the skeg.

Mike,

Thanks for your feedback. That was my hunch but I thought it better to ask some folks more experienced.

I think I've seen Stabil spray can for fogging the carbs. I'm guessing this is what he's talking about and sounds like he's using it right.

Your right they recommend the Sta-bil fogging spray if motor is not going to be used for 30 days or more on their web sight.
