I live in the Granbury area, but have never fished for crappie on this lake. I know the golden alge bloom has created problems, but is this lake known to have any good crappie fishing or am I just wasting time and gas? Thanks

only decent crappie fishing will be up the river in late december through mid march. sanchez creek area would be worth a shot during those months, until then i wouldnt waste your time. Mr. Baird with tpwd game and spoke a me bass club meeting last week and shared recent electro fishing results and they were poor. if you did find crappie on the main lake, it would be doubtful that they would be keeper size. all the adult populations of fish on that lake have gone to nothing.
Benbrook has been on fire lately. anton and i were out there today and they are still biting.

I've been on the lake for two years now and haven't had any luck with crappie...but all the old timer's tell me that this use to be a great crappie lake. So I think the golden Algae did us in. But, if they catch them up river during the spring they've got to be in that main lake somewhere.
We've just got to find them. I heard that they have caught them around those docks by Pier 144 earlier this year. But quite honestly I've been fishing for the large mouths and trolling for the sandies because at least I'm having good luck there.
But I plan on working the lake a lot harder for those wonderful tasting slaps this fall when it gets a little cooler.
Good luck and I hope you catch a boat load!!!

In the early spring and spring I have slayed them in creeks out here but after they get out of the creeks I can never find them. Had a great time for a couple of weeks early spring last year. Cleaned up on them in 1-3ft of water with water temps in the mid 50's.

Well thas's good to hear...That means they are hiding somewhere and I just have to find their favorite spot.
At least now I know they are still around.
Thanks!

Thanks for all the info, now we can just hope we miss the alge bloom if it ever cools back down. I'd love to see this lake rebound to a solid fishery again.
