The steering on my 1985 Skeeter Starfire has become incredibly stiff and I think it is about time to have the cables replaced. What kind of cost can I expect when having a tech. replace the cables? Does anyone know how much the parts run for this type of job?

Sometimes labor will increase because you have to remove the engine from the boat in order to get the cables thru the tilt tube. But rule of thump cables are +or- $115 retail. The funky part is there is approximately 82 different cables listed. You really need to know which brand , style, length.

Being that old, I would seriously look at a complete steering system. Cable type and length are printed on the cable.

I just changed the cables on my 88 Skeeter Starfire. Cost for the two was about 220.00. I installed them my self and it was not a big job.I can now steer it with my index finger. Well worth the cost.

Good luck
