while using my boat the other day i was using the t&t and it would'nt go down at first then after being patient it finally went down but then it wouldn't go up and then after awhile i finally got it to go up,is it acting like this because it might be low on fluid or is it something else,also how do i add fluid if that is the problem,its a 1981 140 hp evinrude,thanks

Did it make some "skipping or gurgling" sounds as you tried to trim it? If so, it may need fluid. There's a big flat slotted screw head on it. That's where you add fluid. ( Dexron is OK, they say). But since I havent done mine in 2 years, I cant remember right now, if you add it when it's up or down. bang

Mike will clarify that in another post, I'm sure.

If it seems not to be getting power to the trim motor, then check your battery connections and the relay.

On a Mercuy you have to trim it all the way up before you take the screw out to add fluid.

on that engine its the full up position for filling, cycle it then recheck/add fluid. should be up to the bottom of the hole when full. it sounds like you have low fluid to me, but could be the motor gettin old/weak.

That works. I've used the lubrimatic or the Dexron auto tranny fluid. No problems with either one that I know of.
