I can remember the day you could bring in a mess of crappie on lake Stamford. We have a cabin at Lakeshoreside,or atleast i think since the tornadoes came threw there.

I should have better info after the weekend. A "friend of a friend" said in the coves the fish are holding outside of the patches of reeds until the afternoon and then are on the inside edges. Until the lake got so low about 4 or 5 years ago, Stamford was by far the best crappie lake in this part of the country. I kept thinking it would explode last year after catching nearly full, but if it happened I never heard about it. There is someone on here who's brother-in-law is a game warden down there, maybe he will hear something. The thing about Stamford is when it has water, there are places to unload from the bank for tubes and water wagons in good fishing areas.

DickyDoo,

Did you mean you have a cabin at Lake Shore Sites on the northwest end of the lake? We had a cabin there in the 70's. Remember well old J. W. Jeffcoat owner of the store and boat ramp area. (Look who is calling someone else and old man laugh ) I suppose he is long gone by now. Used to catch spawning crappie in the boat channel. Just walked along the sides of the channel and moved a jig along about 6" off the channel sides. Caught a lot of crappie there. That is where my love of crappie fishing began. For an ugly looking brown water lake, it is like JBT, one good crappie factory.

I know through my company and dollars that we have spent in repair that most of the tornado damage was at the Anchor area.

Isn't the guy who has a brother-in-law as a game warden there the one from Sunray up in the Panhandle. Can't remember his handle (oldtimers disease).

I heard J.W and his brother both passed away within the last couple of years. Anna Jefcoat still lives there. Where was your cabin ? There awas a cabin on the main road with a small pipe fince in front of our cabin and I think they were from Brownfield. I still have an Uncle that lives at the area.

DickyDoo,

Its been a while since I have been down there, so the place may have changed some. The best I can remember is that the cabin was the first house type cabin on the main road on the left as you go in. It had a single pipe fence around the side and back about 2 feet tall. The cabin was basically a one room cabin, and was well kept in the 70's. The cabin was painted a beige color. It has a tin covered boat storage shed beside it. The last time I saw it, it looked pretty much in disrepair. At that time, my father-in-law owned the cabin. His name was Dutch Preston. He sold the cabin to someone else from Brownfield, but I do not remember who it was. Last summer, I went by and saw a for sale sign on it.

I also am sorry to hear that JW and his brother are both gone. JW could be a grouchy old codger, but he had a good heart and was a fine man.

As Dutch has been gone now for about 10 years, it is a bitter-sweet trip for me down memory lane. I lost the world's best fishing partner for me when he passed on. I've got to get off this one now. Brings a lump to my throat thinking about those times.

I am almost positive we were neighbors because we would always try to walk on that fence. The cabin due north of your cabin was ours .My Uncle now owns it and the trailer house due west of there. We had a many good times on that lake a hated the fact we were so far from the water. But as fate would have after the big flood we were really lucky to be so far from the lake. There was a metal carport that housed a boat most of the time. Let me know if im right .

Thought I'd have some specifics this weekend, but the good ol dry line stayed in place and although I've never been accused of over intelligence, just couldn't fight 30+ mile per hour winds.

Hello all. Just got the Stamford report from the horse's mouth (or some other part of his anatomy). My brother, the game warden on Stamford, said that the crappie fishing was reeaal slow right now. One day last week, there were some nice size crappie that came out (2-2 1/2 range), but that bite was on for just that one day.

By the way, according to him, that tornado that went across the lake took out many of the cabins in the camp on the NW side of the lake.

If anyone has any luck around Lubbock, Amarillo area, I sure would like to hear about it.

Thanks

DickyDoo,

Sure sounds right. This picture was taken in the late 70's. The metal boat shed is behind the pickup and tree. Is this the same spot? The white Mercury Montego was mine.

If ya'll had the cabin during the big flood that put about 4 feet of water in Jeffcoats store, we were neighbors of a sort even if this is not the right cabin.

we were neighbors. we had the cabin behind yours .I can remember the warm night we would have the big plywood windows open for what ever kinda breeze we could get .You could hear the power plant running at night. Its funny how small a world it is.
We now have a trailer house right behind the house in the right side of your picture. This brings back some really nice, old memories.

You have jogged my memory. I could not for the life of me remember what the cabin behind us looked like. Now I remember the Plywood window coverings. Yep. Small world. We probably fished the water discharge at the same time together.
