Greetings All, I just bought myself my own Christmas gift this year. Finally I get something for Christmas that I really want. I went on ebay and scored a beautiful RED Curado 200. I have several of the green ones and I just wanted this for my collection. I had never seen these before. Can anyone give me some history on them. I assume they were made and discontinued before the green ones. Thanks and Happy Holidays.

Actually, the red Curados were the second generation. The first generation were silver, the same size as the red ones, and had a flipping switch. I had two of the first generation Curados, they were my first "high-end" reels, but unfortunately, they had a design defect and Shimano warranty replaced them with the second generation (red) Curados.

Not too sure but I would have to say that the Calcutta was the first "High End Reel"

The key word there was "my" first high-end reels. I didn't acquire a Calcutta until after the green Curados came out (and after things settled down financially following my first divorce).

I just caught that.

Curado and Calucutta were bullet proof reels. I was lucky enough and got a Caluctta as a gift in 1992 and the reel is still worth every penny paid for it.
