I bought a bunch of different pan poppers from a bin at gander mountain, and they all sink! After the first strip, they stay about half an inch under water. Lame! You think they'll take a return?

Head on up and ask them. But there is probably a reason they were in that bin....good luck with it.

Are you using a heavy flourocarbon leader? Small poppers like that will sink when tied to a heavy fluoro leader.

No its a very light mono leader. They're just poor quality.
Clearly, the only solution is to tie my own. I am now forced to spend money on materials for this no matter how my wife feels about it smile Are there some threads here for tying poppers? Preferably, the kind that float.

Easiest ones are Gartside Gurglers or Pete's GurglePop Raineys also makes cool little kits that allow you to tie up a dozen with prebuilt bodies and then paint to your choice.

I'm totally in the Fun Foam poppers camp - V.I.P poppers, Gurglers, Crease flys...

If at first they don't float, slap more foam on the next one!

Cut the hook off - it is steel.

I'd add that a suspending popper isn't a totally bad thing. Even though they don't float, they're still going to push a good amount of water and you might be surprised at the results.

They sell some real tiny life jackets in the boating section.
