In the market for a hand held GPS. Will be using it for area lakes. What the best ones out there right now?

I like the Lowrance H2OC with a Navionics hot maps chip. Get a battery cord for power. The AA batteries won't hold up as long as advertised. Viewing the screen in direct sunlight is also a problem. Guess I like it because I haven't seen anything better. The secret to a good hand held gps is the background maps available for the unit. The unit operates similar/like a lowrance sonar/gps unit. It has trails. You can zoom in or out on map details.

Wish I knew of a good one that was fully viewable in outdoor lighting and had a good power source. The sd chips availabilty is a key issue IMHO.

I have had my Ifinder H20 for about two years and really like it. The batteries don't last long, but I use the cigarette lighter 12volt cord and have had no problems. My advice is to sit down and read the instruction manual and become familiar with it by practicing out in the field. Once you get the hang of it, it is an excellent tool. I am upgrading to a 798ci, and have not decided as to wheter or not I will be keeping it for when I go in other boats or not. I have really enjoyed it, but as IMO the key is learning to use it. It isn't that difficult to learn.
