It's a white bass hot spot for the spring runs.
At other times of year I've had a couple whites, largemouth, channel cat, drum, carp and a buffalo.

Well what about the crappie do they come that far up the river? Dunno to be honest. Most of the people fishing it in spring seem to be after Whites. It wouldn't surprise me to see the crappie get that far up, and I'm sure there are crappie in the holes year round.

Well I was thinking about heading out there today, but I dont know about having to leave my car and worried about it getting broken into now. You guys know of any other creeks in the area that are close by this one?

I was actually there this past Sunday and have been many times in the past. This last Sunday it was slim pickings! I only caught 2 crappie and tried everything I could and nothing. Even the usually good spots were empty. I talked to a few other guys out there and they also were saying that it was really slow for this time of year. I usually do pretty good out there but maybe they (crappie) just haven't moved in yet. I heard there was some kind of construction going on a little further up the creek that may have some effect on the fish but who knows. If you try it let us know how you do. Good Luck.

The new bridge construction towards the lake may hinder the fishing some, but I couldn't imagine it being much of an issue.

Well went out to the creek today at Old Goatmans bridge, looks like a great place to fish. Caught a couple small crappie nothing to brag about though. Saw several people going on late in the afternoon, looked like they were gonna do some crappie fishing also. I worked the creek all the way from the bridge to the big U bend.

txstyker, i was also there this past sunday, i was mainly on the other side of the bridge and under it. i drive that stupid black old cop car... got it for only 500 bucks, all i could afford at the time. but old alton is a good spot all year long, got my pb blue cat out there. im new to crappie fishing but i always see people out there pulling them in right and left. but havnt seen any action this year yet. what do i need to do to catch crappie? ive only caught a few and its been on rooster tail and while i was catfishin. alot of people told me a float and a minno.. tried that no good tho. =/

Try float and jig. Use a small or medium float with 1/16 oz jig. Now put a black body with chartreus on the jig. Cast it out to where you wants. Retrieve your float in very very slowly. While you retrieve in your float, twitch you pole tip a little bit. Just enough to see your float also twitching. i use this technique for crappies and I have been catching a lot of crappies.
Good luck and we'll see you at that creek too.

what do you guys sugguest for catfish in that area, there are so many spots it would take you days to fish that creek LOL. I will have to try the bobber stop technique. Can you use just a regular bobber?

the only way i used a float is on my leader. there are a few good spots out there.. and a few hard to get to spots that look great but nothings there.. bad night. haha try using fresh shad or wallmart fresh raw shrimp. try looking for some current action ( which theres none right now. everyone seems to walk off the the left side of the bridge so i decided one day ill go look on the other side and found a nice spot out there with lots of structur. i might go out there this evening. not sure which hole i wanna fish yet. but yeah good luck outt here jrose
