Shark fishing off the beach is one of the most rewarding typed of fishing that I have ever done. You can go hours without a bite and feel like your doing everything wrong and then the one bite you get makes all the work worth it.

I generally start in March or April targeting sandbars as they make the migration through the area and fish for bull sharks and black tips all the way through October. They are still there later but I generally start hunting and targeting flounder around that time, so my focus seems to change.

You probably need to take up a new hobby. You obviously aren't much of a fisherman.

Man that's pretty

How big was she?

Also, where do you get your tags from? And how exactly does it work? Do the tags have a website on them to track the shark's growth?

Ryno,

The red was not measured or weighed, but if I has to guess somewhere between 45-48 inches and somewhere between 30 & 40 lbs.

I get the tags from the NOAA Apex Predator program. Basically once you land a shark place the tag in the shark around the dorsal fin, get the measurements required, fill out the provided card for each tag, and mail in the pre paid tag. If the shark is caught again hopefully the person will call in a give the needed information. Its done to tract where they go, how much they grow, ect. You can either get the tags from NOAA or
through the following email. They will just need your name, address, and phone number.
