That is incredible, a picture really is worth a thousand words. What lake was he fishing, what did he catch it on ? I am still trying to reach the two pound mark, came close not long ago with one that was over fourteen inches. And I lost one pulling it up out of the water trying to get it over the rail of the public fishing pier i was fishing from. I am confidant it was over two pounds, still, that is just incredible. Thanks for posting that, I am using the printer to get a copy of it.

I think it came from Fork. If I remember correctly he was messing around on a pier down there. He was taking his kid fishing and bought a pole at a garage sale.
Yes I did admit defeat. Good job back to back champion

I thought a caught the Lewisville record last spring but was a pound short or so. That crappie makes my 14in one look like a baby.

I was there the night the man caught that monster. He had to wait until morning to get it weighed on a certified scale. Needless to say it did loose some weight sitting in a pickle barrel over night. It was caught on a minnow on the "Minnow Bucket" pier at around 6pm. I was fishing on the pier catching a few keepers just jiggin around the posts, he caught that fish on a tight line off the bottom at the very end of the pier.

JOHN VARNER CAUGHT A NEW "UNOFFICIAL" STATE RECORD BLACK CRAPPIE TODAY AT CC. HE ESTIMATED IT AT 4# 2OZ. (I ESTIMATED IT AT 2.5# BUT WHAT DO I KNOW) TOO BAD WE DIDN'T WEIGH IT.

WOW, looks unreal. I dont know if it is true or not but some ol' boy told me that a game warden made someone throw back a crappie a couple of years ago that was just shy of 5 pounds cause he didnt have a license. Might be a tall tail...dont know.

Gentleman,
What a nice crappie that was, but I respectfully submit to you that the Texas state record black crappie was 4.38 pounds and was caught out of Lake Ray Hubbard in the mid 1980's. The rest of my adult life will be spent trying to best that record. Kudos to George Ward for sure on the 3.92 pounder.

Andy,
did you catch that 4.38 pounder out of Hubbard?
The official state record info on black crappie is:
"Crappie Black 3.92 18.5 04/27/03 Fork George Ward minnow "

ANY 4# CRAPPIE AT HUBBARD WOULD ALMOST CERTAINLY BE A WHITE CRAPPIE. IF IT WAS A BLACK IT WAS NOT CERTIFIED.
