Not sure where you stay, but there are tons of lakes around. I just moved 2 months ago from Illinois and was suprised at how many lakes there are in a close area.

Im too new to help on a specific lake, but my 1st lake was the Vine too. As far as winter, i would just fish a fall pattern 1st and move deeper if the bite isnt there, i havent found fish deep yet.

Grapevine for me is actually better in the winter, i've always boated more overs in the winter time.

I guess the reason would be, i target the edges of the creek channels where they are closest to a point and throw a DD22. or a T rigged slow rolled 8" lizard or creature bait.

The Vine made me change the way i fish because its more of a rock, rip rap lake it really made me understand and use my electronics. If you have a Si unit, you can find everyones brush piles pretty easy in the Vine if you look for them.

Everyone heads for Twin Coves, i've made it a point to try and stay away from there and learn the rest of the lake. Twin Coves has the standing timber, people see it and automatically want to converge on it.
Dont forget the boat docks and tires,(And the Dam) lots of areas to work on presentation and technique at the Vine.

IMO it fishes pretty decent through about the middle of Jan then it gets tough. ON the 2nd or 3rd sunny day when the water is in the low 50's you can get one heck of a shallow jig bite in the rocks.

thanks for the info... I have fished by the dam and fliped the boat dock and tires by Scotts. havn't gone to the timber yet. It's a lot different than the weeds in Mich. more like the northern part of lake Michigan where Smallmouth is king. I pitched the shore line of some of the coves with a baby brushhog and did ok. haven't gotten any overs yet. My son works Sat. at Thompson marine by Scotts so I fish while he works..lol

thanks again for the help
