I found a cooler today that looked pretty cool looking and figured I could use it for fishing for trips to the coast.

It's one of these Coleman coolers that is green and has metal on the top and around it. Got it for 10 bucks. And it's in great condition except for just a little bit of rust on some of the hardware and the metal handles it has. Looked like a nice cooler and for 10 bucks couldn't pass it up.

Just wondering if you think it probably wouldn't be a good idea to expose it to the salt on the coast and just use a regular plastic cooler instead or if it should be fine. I've never had a metal cooler like this before but looks really cool and nice for fishing.

I think the salt might eat it up. For salt, I'd go with a Yeti cooler.

well...for 10 bucks, I say "go for it" on the salt! Rinse it out well after use and it should last a bit...maybe the rust will add beauty to it.

fwiw,... it's an antique (collector's item)

if you use it, just rinse it good w/salt-away and hit it with corrosion-X............ might even wanna spray the metal with corrision-X HD first

i've got one as-old-as or older'n me and it's still going strong

Thanks, I'll show a picture of it later. I saw it and it was really nice and it caught my eye and for 10 bucks I couldn't pass it up. It has a little rust here and there on the metal hardware but overall it's in nice condition. It even has a metal latch to close it and metal handles on the side. It's green metal on the top and around it and says Coleman on it and it has regular cooler material on the bottom and inside of it. I think it's 54 quart size. Just looked kinda cool looking and figured it would make a nice fishing cooler.

And I got myself a nice wine bottle opener for 6 bucks. A thick heavy duty brass one made in Virginia that has a clamp mount and it de-corks a wine bottle with one swipe of the lever. Pretty cool. Tried it out last night and works great.

And also found an older but brand new looking Garcia Mitchell 300 spinning reel for 5 bucks. I know they are not the greatest reel but it pretty much looks brand new like it had never been used before except the rod it was on was broken about 2 feet off the end and missing a guide so I just bought it for the reel since for 5 bucks I couldn't pass it up.

Dang, now I want to eat some flounder with a nice glass of wine.

Yeti's are a waste of money, they have marine ice chests that work really good.

Thanks, if I use it I'll just spray all the metal parts very well with anti-corrosion spray. And rinse it well afterwards.

It's a nice little cooler for the price and had never seen one. I looked them up online and they still sell this model I think and they run about $150. I don't know why they are so high but they do look cool with the metal top and metal all the way around. Of course mine is used but for 10 bucks I couldn't beat it.
