If I could persuade some of you folks to list the qualities that you look for in a boat dock to produce crappie I would really appreciate it.
Thanks

1. older docks with larger wood frames 2. docks near creek channels or deeper water 3. docks with brush cover 4. bigger docks = more shad

Adding onto Yassir's question on boat docks what about marina slips what's a good technique for those as well?
Yassir, I have also done well on lone boat docks or ones that are a ways apart from another group of docks.
fishing without beer is like,.umm...hunting without beer!

any bait or technique you would normally use to catch crappie, just try to pattern the depth they are biting and be sure and work the shaded areas well.
i hear that shad assassins on a road runner jig head work well, i usually use hollow tube jigs tipped with crappie nibbles on a 1/16th oz jig. i will swim the bait and verticle jig where possible.
i think i am going to purchase a kayak so i can work the docks more thoroughly.

SHADE and BRUSH. I catch most of my fish in "dark waters". The darker, the better. SInk and float cedars all around.

Things I look for in a crappie dock....
1. 25-40 ft. of water depth, tapering in the back to the shore line. 2. Lots of shaded areas on sunny days. 3. Good Bottom Structure. 4. Presence of bait fish in and around. 5. Presence of Crappie holding in, around and under the dock. 6. Easy access to the prime areas you would like to target. 7. Nice, white, bright lighting at nite that brings in the baitfish. 8. Freindly owners to fish with. 9. A key to the boat house. 10. A nice cleaning table 11. a good place to tie the boat off. 12. within minutes of a boat ramp that is minutes from my house.
And there you have it!!!! R
Where do they go when they're not there???

What is proper etiquette when fishing other's boat docks, i.e., how close can one get to the dock, what time of day, etc., etc?

And there you have it!!!! R [/QB] So why is it that I hardly ever catch a crappie at CC at night under the docks, yet catch hybrids, sandbass, catfish, LMBs, yellow bass, and other, but not much crappie. Is there a specific way to target crappie and keep the trash hybrids, sandies and others off?
John 5:24 Very truly I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.
1Peter 3:18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit.

With regard to dock etiquettie...respect other peoples property. Ask yourself what you would expect from others fishing your dock? Then back it off a notch.
Some people will even let you tie up and fish off their docks....others will use a laser pointer to shine a bead on your shirt and scare you off. Always leave it in better shape than it was when you got there if at all possible.
Yep....white bass and trash fish are usually up there with the easy pickin's. The crappie are closer to the bottom out of the way...they don't want to get in the way of those other more aggressive fish. Bass, Stripers, catfish love crappie too!
When fishing under a light, I just let my jig go to the bottom and bring it up ever so slowly. When I feel that magic tap, I try to keep it at that depth or let it back down and work it back to the depth where I got the tap. At least....that's been my experience.
If I want to catch white bass, I bring my jig up closer to the surface where they can see it under the light and boom...fish on.
Where do they go when they're not there???
