It should bother you... putting out brush piles are no joke. I dont mind people fishing mine when they also put thier own out. however, when people pot lick off others is when i get ticked off.

One other thing Kyle, has the new boat reciveved the crappie cat approval. You know without approval it's back to the old boat.
Some people just don't get it, when a brush pile is sunk it no longer is "my brush pile". See you later.

for those of you who also fish for hybrids or sandbass,
while jiggin the flats in 15-20 ft of water , keep an
eye on your locator,
two of my most prized spots , I've seen on my front sonar
while working a jiggin' spoon. They are on main lake flats ,
hundreds of yards from a drop off, and not lined up with
any landmarks I can see. this makes them very difficult to
find without gps, they get very little fishing pressure and
seem to hold bigger than average crappie.
Since they are in areas more known for sandbass than crappie,
passerbys will assume you are fishing for the wrong species.

Might be wise to have a jiggin spoon tied on and drift off
the spot if someone decides to pay you a vist. Most of the
time I have both sets of gear with me, anyway.

and those two spots are ....WHERE?
Sat morning in that 27 degree weather, just before the wind picked up, there was a good sized raft of birds just setting there, South of the 155 bridge about 200 yards pretty much in the middle of the lake. I couldn't tell if any of them had their heads under water but they seemed to be waiting for something. Possibly some of your stripers?

Yeah, I will fish those good ole sandy spots too and when rigged with 2 jigs, I will pull in crappie on the bottom and a sandy on the top.

Some people don't have trolling motors so anchoring is the only option. Also, sometimes the wind is blowing too hard to fight the trolling motor.

The proper way to anchor, regardless of whether you are fishing a brushpile or not, is to have the proper ground tackle(anchor and chain) and scope(rope) for the job. If you do it properly your anchor should never be close to the brushpile.

For a brushpile in 30ft of water, for example, you would want to motor up wind and plan on deploying at a minimum 100ft and up to 200ft of rope. You would be dropping the anchor atleast 80ft up wind of the brush pile.

In addition, if you know you may need 200ft of rope you should carry 300. You want to deploy your anchor far enough up wind to allow it time to "dig" and still have distance between you and your target. In other words, if you are anchoring in 30ft of water in a stiff wind you should motor up wind atleast 250ft and deploy the anchor. This will give the anchor 30-60ft to "grab"...if it grabs immediately then you have 300ft of rope to allow yourself to slide back to your target.

If you only carry the minimum amount of rope to get the job done it means you have less margin for error...if you deploy to close and the anchor drags 30ft before sticking you won't have enough scope for the conditions which means your anchor is more likely to pull prematurely...if this happens while you are fishing you won't have time to retreieve lines and the anchor before dragging it through the brush pile.
