There's always the no sleep the night before method, but I'm not sure it's beneficial.
The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

I have to sleep on the couch, otherwise I would oversleep every time. I hate getting up early and its about an hour drive by the time I get the boat out of storage and to the lake. I sucked at tournaments for a couple years because I didn't know that the fish are usually doing something a little different at dawn than when I prefer to fish - in the afternoons. I'm getting better at getting up but I have to leave the house around 4 usually to make registration/boat checks. I also always have to go by the town and country and get a snack.

I take care of the little things that are my control like checking gear and re-spooling. This allows me to focus on the moment. Ease of mind goes a long way.
Bass fishing is like a 30,000 acre golf course with no flags and five holes you can't see- Tim

I usually have like 20 fishing shows recorded, so I watch them until I get tired enough to fall asleep... It's funny, watching all those pros catch tons of fish will actualy improve my confidence the next day on the water.

Ha Ha me too we normally drink some beers the night before talking about all the fish were gonna catch, all the spots, and showing all the cool lures we purchased at bass pro and academy while we load all the rods in the boat.So when the alarm goes off at four I dont want a shower I want a coke and a burrito from the gas station and off to the lake.
What that thound?

you always have to stay ready once fishing and never quit! I took out a friend a couple weeks ago on Falcon and saw a great example of this.
He watch me catch fish all day long without a bite of his own! He wasnt as experience as I am and was having a tough time with the offshore fishing! i could see he was getting frustrated but I tried to keep him in the game!
With an hour left he still had nothing, we moved to a long ledge just off the shorline and he started chunking a spinnerbait. All of a sudden, wham! He hooked and landed his new PB of about 10 lbs!
He had fished for about 10 hrs with no bite all day and on one of his last cast nabbed a 10 lb. Now, he wouldnt have won a tourny on that fish but might have earned some money with a big fish. Regardless, it was his PB and came because he did not give up mentally!

I just re-tie all my lures. There's no sense in getting nervous. If you practice like I do, the tournament days are the easiest days of the week. Though, I do like to hear Possum Kingdom by the Toadies and Thunderstruck by ACDC to get the juices flowing before I get after them on the lake.

You contradict yourself regularly though. ALL of your posts either state that you catch HUGE bass or that Choke, Mathis, and Falcon are being ruined by somebody else????
