Don't know about Friday, but Thursday was tough for me. Since it was Thanksgiving I pretty much had the lake to myself, but I had a hard time finding a pattern. Fished shallow using flukes and wacky rigged trick sticks and deep (15-25ft) using C-rig, T-rig and deep crank and only got 4 bites all day.
Water temp started out at 64.5 and only got to 66.5 all day. Wind was not a factor and in fact it got too still towards the later part of the day. I fished Calliham point near the road bed, the creek to the southwest of Possum creek, the mouth of Possum Creek (east side), Three Fingers (road bed and east shore), both main lake points on either side of north shore ramp and finally near the road bed in Salt Creek. Got two on flukes in 2-3 feet of water near the back of creeks in grass, one on T-rig brush hog and one on C-rig ole monster 10 inch worm. All were in the 2 - 2.5 pound range.
If anyone had any luck, I would love to know what I was doing wrong. Maybe I was fishing too fast, but I really tried to slow it down. I was hoping for a nice warm up in the afternoon for the shallow water bite, but it stayed cool and cloudy all day Thursday.

I am with Rich on this one. Was out yesterday - Nov 29th and fished from 6:16 am to almost 5:00 pm, and I almost could not buy a bite.
I had convinced myself a shallow pattern next to deep water would work - but nothing. I had four bites all day and they were very quick strikes. I managaged to land two of them. Water temps were in the mid 60's all day with no sun shine. I stayed shallow from 0 to 12 feet trying to locate some type of pattern - I fished wacky's, trick works, TRigs, Cranks, flukes and lipless on every spot from south shore all the way to the back of four fingers behind the island and did not get much.
So if you are heading out to the lake, I feel these fish have started to move into thier winter patterns already. I would fish deep humps with hard wood structure - like the main humps at four fingers. If the sun gets up high you may want to move shallow, but if it was like yesterday with overcast and calm as could be all day I would stay on a deeper patter.

Choke Canyon has been very very very slow lately. I dont want to get bashed again for saying it, but the local report says that "high boat traffic due to duck hunters may be a cause!"
Anyways, me and my cousin fished Choke canyon on saturday from 7 am till dark pm and only managed 7 total fish. Nothing over 3 lbs. Take in mind that we are both avid bass fisherman and I live next to choke and fish it on a weekly basis. We tried everything and fished all over the lake. We even re-launched the boat at the 99 bridge and tried the river portion!
We finally found a small pattern toward the last 30 minutes of light. Fish seemed to be holding along shoreline rock piles and could be caught with small crankbaits bumped along the rocky bottom! These are the man made rockpiles that you can find around all of the boat ramps on the lake. We had our success on the one across from the 99 ramp! Fish seemed to be hanging there pretty goood as we caught 3 or 4 in the last 30 minutes of the day!
Anyways, I dont need any trash talk, I am just giving you a factual report on the condition of choke right now. Anyone that fishes the lake will say the same thing. No emotions here just facts!

MeSkeeter, can you explain exactly how duck hunting traffic impacts the large mouth bass bite on the entire lake?
Also, where exactly is this "local report" you keep referring to?

Also, where exactly is this "local report" you keep referring to? Please quit calling me Meskeeter! But to answer your question, you can find that report in last weeks callertimes sports section. They have a fishing report section in the sunday sports page givin by local guides! It has their name, pic, and a caption of what they suggest to do! I have nothing against duck hunters but Im just being factual about their massive presence on choke right now, and trying to give a logical opinion as to why the fishing is so bad right now on a lake that is usally awesome this time of year. Its just an opinion, if you have a better reason than state it but dont get mad and start bashing me over my opinion. Just give yours! If you fish the lake on a regular basis that is! Im just trying to think logical and if I was a bass and there were boats zipping all over my habitat, and concussion blasts from shotgun blast all over the place, I wouldnt be in the biting mood. Id be hiding or way down deep! Im just trying to figure out a reason why good fisherman are having a tough time on a lake that is usually easy to catch fish on. Nothing personal, so chill!

I did not bash you, rather, I merely asked you to explain your theory.
Try not to get irritated so easily. The tone of your post is awfully defensive.

I was duck hunting on the jetty by the calliham ramp & I'm pretty sure all the bass fishermen were scaring the ducks away. I'm sure I would have done better if they weren't launching their boats & zooming around.

concussion blasts? really? the bass can feel that? You didn't know that??? Of course shotgun's scare bass. They hate the sound of shotguns, but strangely the sound of a 250 Merc WOT has no effect on them. You're welcome

Flip, In the Sunday November 29th Caller Times, was Jerry the one that blamed it on the duck hunters. Now be very careful. I have moved from Corpus and we have had conversations in the past. I am sure you remember who I am.

Also, where exactly is this "local report" you keep referring to? Im sorry, if I sound defensive, its just because your post sounded so "offensive"! First you call me Meskeeter, then you sarcasticly ask me two questions, which I answered! Trust me, the last thing I want to do is have to defend every little thing or opinion I have. But, dont go on the offensive and ask for a defense every time I post. Do I do this to you? This is becoming very immature. Trust me, I dont want anything to do with you and wouldnt even think about harassing you, bothering you, or even asking you a question. So, do you think you can return the favor and just leave me alone. Im not calling you out in my post, so if you dont like what I have to say, just dont click on my post. Its simple! Thanks, and have a good day! BTW, its you same 4 or 5 guys that just wont quit! Please give it a rest. I know for a fact that other people are tired of it too!
