I think it was two years back, I witnessed a trophy trout caught at the lewisville trailrace. I think it was about 22-23 inches. I think i still have the photo somewhere. I posted a picture of it here on the forums a while back during the trout season, maybe i can dig it up. I swear it looked like a salmon until I realized it was a rainbow trout. There are decent sized ones mixed in, just depends on which hatchery they came from.

I've caught some up to 10-11" so far and some as small as 5" LOL

Trout fishing is great if you have kids, I take my little cousins yearly to do some trout fishin and they have a blast. Its a step up for them from fishing for bluegills smile

I guess Texas trout are pretty small, you refer in inches, in SoCal the small ones are 2 lbs and get up in the 15 lb range

PB Common = 36-8
PB Buffalo = 62-8
PB Mirror (fully scaled) 13-0
PB Flat Head Catfish = 44

haha yeah, on average, they are less than a lb in terms of weight here in TX, you'd be lucky to get anything over a lb, but thats why they limit us 5 a day...so for 5 fish, it "should" total over a pound rolfmao

This isn't anywhere near "normal" trout size compare to states out west and north have. Afterall, TX trout are from hatcheries. Trophy sized trout are a rare sighting here in good ol Texas haha.

they have the same limits in SoCal, 5 per day unless you by a second pass for 5 more, and all fish come from hacheries as well

Maybe the hatcheries here need to learn the same methods or techniques as california , cause our trout are dinks! haha

It might have something to do with the water staying colder for a longer period of time in cali, they also stock brown trout and whats called tail waggers, some type of hybrid that jumps out of the water during the fight, I tell you it is an awesome feeling seeing them flip put of the water when you are fighting them.

My biggest I have ever caught was only a little over 9 lbs but it was on a ultra light rod and reel with 4 lb test line and it took quite awhile to haul in.

How long after the stocking does it usually take for the trout to get to actually feeding?Or are they feeding as soon as they are dumped in the pond.Reason I am asking is cause I belive they will stock the pond by my moms place today.Might head out there depending on what you guys and gals may have to say.

I don't always catch fish, but when I do, I prefer Dos Hybrids

I found it usually takes a couple of days for the trout to acclimate to the new invironment, then the feeding begins.

a good bait to use is whats called a power mouse, made of white gulp, salmon egg and worm
