Any other fishermen here that fish this bay also. That's where I do 95% of my fishing. We were there sunday and the conditions were perfect. Little to no wind and the water was like glass. Got into some schools of reds in the flats but they didn't want to eat anything we had.

How have your recent trips been ???

Cool. It's a great bay to fish. Trust me there are plenty of other people that know about it LOL. But luckily you hardly ever have to play bumper boats out there like you do in the Galveston area.

I fish east matty pretty often. Reds can be very easy sometimes and then other times it can seem like heck to get one to strike. But I love em when the wind isnt up and it settles out real clear.

I fish East Matty pretty regular. Been fishing under the birds for about 3 weeks now. Catch a lot of small trout under the birds but manage to find some keepers. I like to drift Drull's lump, Chinquapin Reefs, and the Condo Pocket. I like west bay also but it is a lot longer run. Sometimes I just fish the Diversion Channel. I also like to fish Cowtrap and Cedar Lakes.

I have been wanting to to there for a long time, just don't know it and by the time I work up my nerve, I end up going to either Rockport or Galveston, where I am more comfortable. Are there any areas that you could give reference to for a Matty novice? About the red situation...

"Little to no wind and the water was like glass. Got into some schools of reds in the flats but they didn't want to eat anything we had...."

That happened to us too, they were all over the place (in Rockport this past Saturday), but all we could do was spook them....that is, until the wind picked up. Next time, remember the spot, go somewhere else, and when the wind picks up...go back! You will be glad you did!

I don't have a shallow water boat, but my fishing buddy does. I have a low end Kenner 18ft center console.

Thanks in advance.

I've actually hunted it more than I have fished it.

If I fished for money.........I'd be broke.

I fish East and West Matty fairly frequently. I haven't heard anything about the river so far this winter. With the cold normally it would be good now, but I'm guessing the rains have it muddy. Does anyone know what the status is?

Fished E Matty yesterday in the fog. Caught 6 reds and 6 trout and lots of throwbacks. I don't consider "smooth as glass" perfect conditions, I like a little ripple on the water. It was smooth as glass yesterday, no wind at all. I think it made things tougher, you don't drift, you just sit there. We had to move around a lot, catch 1 or 2 in a spot and move on. Most of the fish we caught were under or near birds sitting on the water. Tequila Gold or similar color seemed to work best bouncing it off the bottom. Lots of Reds in the bay right now.

The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president.

I'll be down there a few times in the next few weeks. Buddie fished yesterday in the fog and had similar results. He's out there today also.
