Trying to find some new hooks for cats. I am fishing in swift current and using live or cut bait. What is the best all around hook that can easily be purchased at any tackle store? I really don't like the circle hooks had several fish just pull off after a good fight!

Gamakatsu are the best I've used. Very sharp out of the package and a good deal for a pack of 25. Awesome hooks for the money...love em. Rig them with a snell rig and DON'T YANK and you won't have any trouble with them coming off. Just let the rod load up and reel down slowly. It takes some getting used to but your hookup ratio will increase if you stick with it. You can find these at about all basspro and academy...not sure if walmart will have them though.

Mustad 5/0 Wide Gaps are my choice for saltwater & freshwater fishing when using live bait. When I do use Circle hooks I use Gamagatsu Circle hooks they are the best circle hook made in my opinion. I also the EWG worm hooks when I'm bass fishing.

I normally use anywhere from 4/0-8/0 circle hooks. Depending on what I'm targeting.

I like the Gamagotsu 8'0 octapus circle, and also the 8'0 inline circle, sometimes they are out of one of them and I buy the other, the octapus circle has an offset, and the inline circle doesn't, but they are both very sharp, and good hooks that don't cost too much! I have used smaller hooks and done ok with them, but I like to use big baits, and if I could find bigger ones I would buy some of them also, Pro Angler tackle has some pretty good hooks that are not too expencive, I like the 9'0 circles, but I sharpen them before I use them!!!
