Do you think any of the Okuma Surf Rods will work for carp; Cedros, EVx, Solaris, Logitude ~all 10-12ft.

What about a 7ft Nomad? Too short for Emma or LBL?

I'd like to have something I can use for salt and fresh.

Surf rods will do the trick but when playing a fish close you need to have your drag a little loose as the rods are stiff and can easily pull the hook. I fish with 10ft surfs but I would recommend that you put the money towards some carp rods. You can get some for the same price as a surf rod.

I have only fished Emma once. Long casts seemed to be essential. Longer rods, longer casts. Having surf fished several times, I would go with the longer rods there also.

If you go for the sea casters look for the 12feet 5ounce max class
And see if you can get one with some compound taper action..they can do the job ok

I took your advice and ordered the longer rods. Playing the fish in close with a loose drag has been noted also. Thanks for your advice.

I just ordered a 10' Cedros, 12' EVx, 12' Solaris, Salina SAF-80, Epixor EB-80 and n Avenger ABF-90.

Chris, for carp yes, but he's planning double duty use in the surf.

Yes that's the reason for the overkill, "double duty", plus I'm on a budget right now and can't afford two set ups.

Anyone had any experience with the European Predator Rods from Cabellas. I have a casting and a spinning on order for a trip to Texdoma in the Spring. Just curious

Grandpa I think you must just look at a rod and feel how it bends
A rod that is stiff and is just for casting heavy leads is no good because carp has much softer mouths then catfish
So you need a rod with a soft bending action all the way to the grip...if the rod is to stiff your pulling the hook and loosing fish all the time

Gpa, those are fine rods and you will be pleased with them. I know of quite a few 30 and 40# carp/buffs caught with them
