I like to use braid at times like the Sufix braid but I usually stick to mono most of the time.

I like Izorline Platinum mono. It's the best mono line you can use in saltwater and not expensive either.

I have had some problems with Spiderwire EZ braid...I lost several good trout (i presume because the other guys in the boat were yanking theirs out!) to this....Even the guide tied the hook on for me and it still "slipped." That is all we could assume. I switched to mono and never lost another hook...or fish! I think we finally ascertained that the spiderwire was 15lb test, 8lb diameter. He was also using braid, but it was 30lb test, 15lb diameter...anything else I am missing? I suppose it could have been the knot, too. What is the best knot for braid?

an improved cinch knot has always worked well for me for tieng my line to a leader or hook you can see how to tie an improved cinch knot at www.animatedknots.com

I've had slippage with the Improved Cinch Knot on braid. I use the Palomar Knot now and have never had a hook slip off or a line break off....

...I have lost fish, just not for those reasons.

I tie my Power Pro directly to the Rockport Rattler jig.

I only use a mono leader if I am Tourney fishing for BIG TROUT in clear SaltH20.

If you are not using the Rockport Rattler jigs then make sure the jig you are using has it's eye all the way closed on your jig or a braided line can slip through it. The Mustad BLN Wide Gap hooks that the Rockport Rattle jigs use eyes close all the way to prevent this from happening.

Also, you can use a loop knot or just about any knot ya want with Power Pro with your jigs, however I use a triple blood knot.

Some anglers I have fished with will put a little dab of super glue on the braided knot to help out
. wink

Where can I get the Rockport Rattler jigs to try out? I would like some 1/8, 1/4, and 3/8 ounce if they make them in those sizes.

As far as knots I pretty much use the Palomar Knot most all the time. Either the Palomar Knot or Trilene Knot I use.

I use braid line for specific fishing situations where I want something more sensitive, like winter fishing for instance when fishing plastics. I do like the Sufix braid.

But I use mono most of the time. And fluorocarbon like the Berkley Vanish fluorocarbon line. But my favorite mono to use is hands down Izorline Platinum. It's the best for saltwater as far as mono. But it all depends on the fishing situation. I use different line and different rigs depending on what fishing method I am using so it varies.

But braid has it's specific purpose. It has it's advantages and disadvantages just like mono. The Sufix braid I like runs about $15.99 at Academy and it's pretty good stuff in my opinion. I think the Power Pro is a little less at $11.99 or $12.99 or something like that.

thanks guys...I don't know the knot that I am tying, but I use a quick tying tool where I simply loop 1 time through the eye then wrap 5 times around the tool and come back through...quick and never have lost a fish, until I used the braid. Then I used the improved cinch knot and it still failed. I don't know what the guide tied. I will try the palomar knot. I also have been joining the mono to the braid with the tying tool, what do you use for joining two lines

Uni to Uni knot when tying braid to a mono leader.

I use spider wire 20lb. I will never go back to mono. It doesn't break until my knife touches it. I was pulling my boat last week with it when I got hung up on some oysters back in the flats.
