Ok, I plan on getting some new gear and new attitude for fishing spring crappie. I want everyone's opinion (what they use or do) for hitting Texas lakes for spawning Crappie. If your not successful all spring long, what would be your perfect scenerio, which lake, the best time to fish, technique, anything you can think of to get this sandbass/ Striper/ Hybrid guy to contract MCD!!! A) First do you fish out of your boat or walk the banks? B) Do you use your lite rod or break out the 9' WM to get out to them? C) cork or freeline minnows, jigs D) type of jigs E) time of day F) best lakes for shallow crappie G) slow or move it around.. you get the point, basically I could use your advice for everything I want to know what's working for you (or what would work if you were able to hit the lake:) ) Thanks

A.) Boat when time allows, or walk the banks on lunch break and such B.) Generally the long pole, but I'm not bashful about using my 4'6" WM rod for other purposes than shooting docks. C.) Get jiggy with it. D.) Usually hand tied chenille jigs in 1/8 to 1/16oz - depends on the method. E.) Any time - except for night time. I just can't catch any fish after the sun goes down. F.) It no matta. G.) Slow, slower, slowest...stop. Just keep it still. As far as getting new gear, I think you're best all around rod is a 9' to 10' rod. You can do everything with that thing you can with every other rod except for maybe shoot docks. And it will be better suited for some methods over a 5' to 6' rod. Just my opinion. Oh..and the best way to "contract" MCD is to go with someone who already is afflicted. It's highly contagious. And if you go with someone who has already learned to cope with their disease (i.e. catch crappie), then you're sure to get it.

Both on foot and boat depending on the lake. I fish Cedar Creek by boat mostly due to private property. My favorite style is string and bead slip cork, you can cast it far and accurate allowing you not to spook the fish. Night time is just as productive as day. Pearl&Blue tube jigs are my preferred bait. If you have trouble seeing your cork, pin it with a lunker light. There is nothing more exciting than that green light shooting under the water at night. Hope this helps, good fishing.

A. Waders B. 11' WM C. Freeline D. Hand-tied jigs, usually red/white E. All Day F. Lake Lavon G. Find a brush pile or grass and drop the jig right in the middle of it, keep it still as possible with a half inch drop of the rod tip from time to time. Can't wait!

North side of the lake to start, thick shoreline brush, 1-3ft water with deep water near by. Black/Chartreuse jig. Let fish dictate speed of presentation. They will tell you quickly what they want. Work everything slowly. If you catch a female first stay because there will be a male there also. Should always be able to double up. Woods and Water Outdoors

A) Walk the banks every chance I get, but will use the boat too B) Always use my 9' WM rods C) Jig 'n Bobber D) Generally use a single chinelle jig but use a plastic Stubby Butt when I have to E) I like afternoons best (4:00 pm until dark) F) Grapevine first, then Lewisville G) Sometimes I nod off I fish it so slow
Steeper sandy, gravel, rocky banks work best for me, that fall into deeper water. Fish parallel to the bank. The magic depth for me seems to be 3'. Hope this helps........

Boat in. Back of feeders. 60+degs. Lanterns only. Moon 3 days waxing /full/ 3 days waning. Pink+white, blue+white, black+chartreuse, green+chartreuse jigs or pink leadhead minnow tipped. If I use a drop light, I fish the dark edges outside the light.
