Curious about the crappie bite on both lakes. I fished the Lewisville Barge 2 weekends ago and hit Ray Roberts last weekend.

Got blanked on Crappies both outings. Did get a few nice Sandies on Ray Roberts that I put back.

I jigged both lakes with minnows and hit coves with standing timber on RR at depths of 4-8-12 ft.

I wonder what I'm doing wrong ?

I don't believe you are neccessarily doing anything wrong. I'm no Wally Marshall, but the first thing I would suggest would be to start narrowing down the areas to fish. This sounds obvious, but a lot of people overlook this. As a general rule, water starts to warm faster on the northern end of lake first. This is because it's generally shallower and has warmer creek water feeding into it. This means that crappie tend to spawn first in the northern end of the lake. I'd start either in creeks or in warm wind-protected coves. I'd start hitting the timber in 8-12 ft and move shallower until I found the fish. Keep moving though... don't wait on them to get hungry, or you'll go hungry!!! Move until you find them and then wear'em out. Another thing to consider is water clarity. Stained water warms faster, so crappie will tend to move much shallower when the water is off-colored.

I plan on hitting Spring or Indian creek on Raybob this weekend. Maybe I'll see you out there. wink

Any recent reports from anyone fishing Grapevine ?

Are the Murrell Park Ramps open ? Any Crappies biting in Twin Coves Marina ? What about off Rocky or Bolo Points ?

How far can you get going West past Knob Hills Park before it gets too shallow ?

Thanks

I hit one of my favorite spring spots on the north shore of Grapevine last night and got no bites in about an hour. Was fishing jig & bobber in 1-3 ft of water.

I launched again today from Sanger and fished the 3002 bridge when the black clouds rolled in.. After the wind settled down I started my Crappie Search again.. Fished the North Shoreline West of the bridge and hit the coves hard.. NO CRAPPIES !!! Minnows, jigs, and nightcrawlers were all a bust.. Landed 1 Largemouth on a minnow up until noon.

Saw the birds hitting the water and tore up the Sand Bass for about 2 hours.. It was fun but no Crappies...

Anyone get into the Crappies on Raybob ? Can you share where you are getting them ?

Anyone know if Twin Coves Creek (NE side of Grapevine just N of the dam) is doing any good?
The dogwoods and other trees are buddin', and though i'm going fishing with a bud of mine back at my old haunt in MS next 3 days, when I get back, Twin Coves used to be fun to fish in the Spring with artificials or minnows.

Just wonderin'.
