Heading to Falcon next week. My dad is coming down from Illinois and plan on spending 6 days down there. I've been there a number of times and have never had any problems. Lately, I've been hearing that is extremely bad down there. Entire rigs stolen, props stolen, lower units stolen, and etc. I've heard these stories before, but never as much as before this trip. Is it really getting that bad down there or is it being overexaggerated? Don't want to sleep in the boat all night to protect it. Were staying at Oso where we usually do, and like I said never had any problems there before. I was thinking if Beacon's would be safer since it is not in town, but the rooms and cabins are dirtier in my experience. Just hoping for someone to help ease my mind. Would like to get some sleep at night, instead of worrying if I was going to wake up with everything.

I've stayed at Beacon before never had a problem I've heard of stuff being stolen but thats anywhwere I personally would rather stay close to the lake away from town but thats every lake I go too. I don't have a lot of eqip so I really watch my stuff but as long as I bring it in no big deal.

You are usually only going to hear about the bad things that go on down there. Not all the times where people had no problems at all.
Just be careful where you can, but don't let it get in the way of you and your Dad having a good time.

I wouldn't be overly concerned. I don't think the "wheels have fallen off" and everybody is loosing stuff. I heard of one bad report in the last couple of weeks but there is no telling how much precautions they had taken. I've never had any problems but I always lock my stuff up and park by my room. Not saying you COULDN'T have problems but just go the extra effort and lock your stuff up. Maybe take your stuff in the room. Get a lock on the Trailer, etc... You should be ok.

Spent 5 days there. just got back on Friday. we stayed at SunBridge Inn. We parked the boat in frount of the room. clean nice rooms and well lighted parking. Didnt have a problem. I did take my rods and electronics out and left the boxes open. But i do that every where.
What part of "Thou Shalt Not..." didn't you understand? (God)

Just got back yesterday after five days and stayed at Oso Blanco and stayed last month for five days at Beacon in the cabins. No problems. Go down there several times a year and to yet have a problem but I always take the normal precautions of removing rods and electronics from the boat and not leave anything in view in the truck. I have noticed an increase in the report of problems in Zapata but I still believe they are less than most other lakes that you would go to. The biggest problems I heard about were at Redwood Lodge which is for sale and I believe closed. The last few trips to Zapata I have also noticed an increase in the number of various law enforcement vehicles in town like the police, highway patrol, and border patrol. Also seems there are more law enforcement out on the lake also. I would advise do go just use smart security decisions and you will most likely be fine.

I'm heading down to Falcon in a couple of weeks and was also a little concerned..............but it's not going to stop me from going fishing. I take the following precautions no matter where I go fishing.........maybe overkill, but I sleep a little better:
All stuff out of the boat at night, parking as near to my room as possible with all lockers open (unless it's raining and then I have the lockers open and the cover on the boat). Prop-lock, Wheel locks on trailer and truck tires and spares. Welded ball on the trailer hitch........locked to the trailer and locked to the truck receiver. The negative is a lot more keys to deal with.
Can they still steal stuff............sure, but hopefully they will think twice because I've made it a little harder for them..........plus I have photos of all my locks and precautions for insurance purposes if disaster strikes.
I also have a CCL which makes me feel a litle more secure...but that is an absolute last resort that I hope I never have to use.
Good luck, tight lines and have fun.......take precautions, but don't let it ruin your fishing trip.

Well I guess that makes 3 of us at least. I'll be staying @ Oso Blanco at least Fri. thru Weds. night next week & then see how I've done to decide to whether or not to stay longer. Heck, if we all stay @ the same place, we could split the cost of a security guard!

Like Tommy said, Falcon no more dangerous than any other hotspot. Enough tackle has been stolen around here in the past two years to open a Bass Pro. It's a hassle, but take the 'easy' stuff inside the room. And, if you're really worried about the truck, pull the fuel pump relay under the hood. Takes sixty seconds. I have not used this deterrent on the river, where I grew up, but damn sure did in Seattle, WA USA when working up there. Have fun, and fish....

I go to falcon just about every weekend. I have stayed at Oso Blanco and at Beacon Lodge and stay overnight about twice a month. Never have had a problem at either place. Just make sure your trailer is locked and equipment in the room and you should not have any problems. Like Tommy said, its no worse than anywhere else. Just be smart..
